Rally in the 1980's was so big, that when I was born in December 1986 and given name Henri, my parents friends and acquaintances asked them was I named after Henri Toivonen.

In 1985, Michèle Mouton humiliated Bobby Unser by winning the Pikes Peak race, prompting his angry reaction, to which she responded: "If you have courage, come and try to beat me on the downhill."

Portugal in the 80's was absolutely mad

Group B and the Isle of Man TT are the pinnacles of motorsport, for me.

Best Motorsport on Earth. Best cars, best drivers, awesome events.... perfection.

FIA : Group B is too dangerous, we stop it

the Peugeot 205 was a really small vehicle, even for european standards. A tiny, little (barely 800kgs) soapbox. 500 hp in that thing would scare the shit out of any sane person...

In 1986 Lancia Delta S4 featured both a turbocharger and a supercharger, producing about 600 hp while weighing just 890 kg (1,962 lbs).

This was when motorsport was good, I used to watch it with my dad, it's like the TT where the danger was why it was so good as people died every race and that draws in people.

Rallying and cornering via controlled drifting originated with Tazio Nuvolari, the greatest driver of all time. The 4x4 Audi was an innovation, but it was beaten by the rear-wheel-drive Lancia 037. That video doesn't mention the Lancia Delta S4 monster, nor the queen of rallies, the Lancia Delta HF Integrale.

Witnessed them in Portugal as child, and it was amazing, night drives for racing was on public road like the EN125. My Oldman would park up when them bright lights approached..Blue flag for them❤

WRC is returning to the UK from next year, and if Elfyn Evans doesn't manage to win it this year (in the last 7 years he's finished 2nd 6 times and he was top all last year and lost out right at the end, and he's currently top again this year) then SURELY the stars will have aligned for him to finally win the Championship on it's return to the UK. He's gonna do it this year though, I have faith!!

The deaths of Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto was absolutely heart rending.
The Audio that does exist is not for the faint of heart, listening to the marshals screaming over the radio to get up the mountain with rescue crews and crews not understanding what was happening and being incompetently far to slow to respond and arguing back.
They always argued that they could of saved them if the safety and rescue crews had got there fast enough.

In Portugal we really love motorsports - to this day (way less) we still have crowd accidents

Audi France has a nice video of uncle Walter playing the pedals...

The Audi S1 is still my favorite rally car, it was so advanced at that time.

Michelle actually won 4 WRC events - 1 in 1982 and 3 in 1983 when she finished second in the chapionship only behind Walther Rohrl (who won the last championship for Opel driving Opel Ascona 400 - a Class 4 car homologated for Group B - after that he went to Audi)

Oooooo I would that so much.
So what is our budget?

Would have loved to been an engineer for those teams in their Group B stomping grounds.
