No one’s talking about how eerily similar the political/corruption/elite class topics in the Absolute universe is to what’s been happening with the JE case these last couple weeks
there's a lot they got going for them, but ultimately i think the popularity and quality comes because it's a set of comics that all feel more like graphic novels than standard superhero comics. they all feel like there's an actual plot that will lead up to some kind of conclusive ending, each with real themes that are developed throughout. it makes them more accessible, but more than that it makes them feel like as a reader you're actually getting something substantive out of the story rather than just popping content that doesn't actually mean anything because it'll all get rebooted or some new writer will come in and change all the characters or ultimately like there is a status quo that must not be truly challenged
So far, no events! Just a small crossover. That's the best part of the absolute universe! Each comic focuses on the story it is telling.... Instead of telling convoluted event plots. The absolute stories are focusing on character driven stories.
Is also worth mentioning that this series started a general cult of the "absolute version", so many fanarts of alternative universe s of franchises are drawn by artists and, in doing so, they find out about this series in the process. This process is something groundbreaking and, most importantly, is not that tied to the comics itself. Now artists and creatives could take it as inspiration to take old and loved franchises and give them a new spin. Is a old idea but I think that the absolute series gave it back some of that charm and curiosity.
Besides being sick asf, I truly believe the main reason is that due to the Absolute Universe being a completely different interpretation of our beloved characters.
This means in order to enjoy Absolute stories, you need ZERO prior comic knowledge, just pick up Issue 1 and enjoy, you’ve missed nothing.
