As you all should know by now I am a massive fan of two titles from marvel, the Ultimate Universe and the X-Men. So of course a concept as novel as Ultimate Wolverine should be something I would love, right? Well....

X-men writers on their way to kill all the X-men for the genuine 10th time to “add stakes” instead of making an actual story

The whole Winter Soldier approach was so cool only for it to be like immediately dropped.

Shoutout to the latest issue of Ultimate Wolverine, where Wolverine fights a bear for the entire issue.

Ultimate wolverine crawled, ran and then fell.

Absolute Batman crawled, ran, ran, ran and kept on running.

Ultimate Wolverine is like that "you got any good writing? no but we have hype moments and aura" meme

@ManeMalik26 8 months ago

The Ultimate universe couldve been, shouldve been more

@Veekay-v1 8 months ago

He looses so much aura the moment he takes his mask off. The new look is not even cool.

Mind you, the big nudge editorial gave him to explore his villains (mostly magik) culminated in issue 13, where theres uhm... 4 total pages dedicated to magik, while the rest of the issue is logan fighting a random bear... okay...

Colossus and Magik not having more royal russian themed fashion Sucks like a Tsar X Stalin look for Colossus and something similar for Magik like a Rasputin X Slavic witch look covered in gold or silver,Marvel rivals has made me realize characters need cool designs

Starting off with murking my sweet boy Nightcrawler was a immediate way to get me to raise an eyebrow in suspicion, then don’t get me started on how weirded out I felt about what they did to Cyclops and Jean and Prof. X

I think the biggest tragedy is Magik, Illyana Rasputin, getting stuck in that book. Imagine how GREAT it would have been to get her in Ultimate X-Men instead of a sauceless, uninteresting book.

Absolute Batman is what Ultimate Wolverine wish it was. We have a guy who's super powerful and drenched in "badassness" who deals with losing his friends and facing off against twisted versions of their usual characters. Except Abs Batman is interesting because it pairs its hype moments and aura farming with a huge UNIQUE mystery around gotham exploring Ark M, and Joker being involved in some global scheme. EXACTLY what Ultimate Wolverine was missing

Christopher Condon Should have been put into a regular xmen book and leave ultimate wolverine to someone else, i couldnt even finish it because the book felt like a collection of stuff we have seen before and the emotional moments were surface level.

The idea of a character on your team, the strongest one, being a sleeper agent that not everyone is aware of and is treated as a ticking time bomb by his peers is a really good plot that fit perfectly for wolverine.

He's already dealt with/is dealing with the theme of lonliness, and his whole mantra is "carving out a piece of the world" for himself, the push & pull of belonging vs ostracization even among his peers would be ripe for moments where wolverine can't help but appear as the monster he was made to be.

Honestly? Would have been more interesting to keep Bucky as the Winter Soldier, but have him go through a Weapon X style project that essentially made him into this universes Wolverine.

@krisr4285 8 months ago

I think the biggest problem with Ultimate Wolverine, is that it’s trying to be an X-Men book. Which I don’t get, because we already have an Ultimate X-Men book. I really thought this book would have delved more into the Russian characters of Marvel, rather than just constantly retreading more Xmen, then killing them off, then introducing more Xmen, then killing them off. And on and on

@braedenwalker6414 8 months ago

in my humble opinion, the absolute universe takes the cake

@louisvictor3473 8 months ago

They could have taken this opportunity to try the original concept for wolverine, where his claws were part of his costume, not internal. Do a little Weapon X (the person gets augmented on by experimentation), a little of that because how often is that original concept really explored, and you can have a visual identity and a high concept that still registers as "Wolverine", but is ultimately (pun intended 100%) its own thing.

It's such a shame because this book started off so well but overtime it degraded into your generic Wolverine story where everyone either dies or is completely useless (or just loses to plot). Ultimate Wolverine could've been great if they kept the vibe from the first 5 issues. I almost dropped this series after that bullshit massacre issue.
