Doctor Strange has always been one of Marvel’s most unique characters… but his original comics are something else entirely.
In this video, we go back to Strange Tales issues 110 to 134! The era where Steve Ditko and Stan Lee created a world unlike anything else in comics.
From surreal dimensions… to the introduction of characters like Dormammu… to the calm, calculated presence of Doctor Strange himself. this video is a celebration of something so iconic created by the legendary Steve Ditko that still feels...strange today.

For me, the Ditko years of Dr Strange are the benchmark, unequalled, and unlikely to ever be equalled.

Strange was Ditko's baby, which Lee didn't much care for until he proved to be popular, which is why Strange didn't get much cover exposure.

Dr Strange stories were LSD trips brought to the printed page.

My babysitter’s son taught me how to read when I was 3 by using comic books. He would sit me on his lap, read the stories, and point out the words. I distinctly remember being blown away by Ditko’s artwork in the Doctor Strange stories because it was like nothing I’d ever seen before. The surrealism of the dimensions that Doctor Strange would travel to was far different than the children’s books I had at home.

My dad described him as a cross between Mandrake the Magician, Vincent Price, and Merlin. Sounds about right

Strange is so cool dude
My favourite story of his is Spawn of Sligguth, it's a very Lovecraft story about a town worshipping an evil snake god, then The Doc turns up and starts casting and blasting

As a creator, Ditko was unparalleled.
His work on Spider-Man is rightly the stuff of legends, but his Doctor Strange, Iron Man and even the Hulk was fabulous.
The Metal Master story in Hulk 6 might just be the best ever. And that was followed by the introduction of the Leader.

11:04 It always disappointed me that Strange only got to be the focus of the cover on Ditko's very last issue.

I loved Dr. Strange as a kid. Still do!

The early Dr Strange, desperately holding back the hordes of Dormammu's 'mindless ones' as they batter against his psychic barrier, gave me childhood nightmares. The nightmares were worth the sense of wonder that also came.

Ditko and Kirby were Marvel's Premier Artists in the beginning.

We were lucky to have grown up during such original creativity. Who wouldn't want to have those mytic powers? Eternal kudos to Stan Lee and Steve Ditko!

I have always been familiar with these stories. And when I was taking my wife to the first Dr Strange in IMAX, She said, this isn’t the kind of movie to see in IMAX. I told her Dr Strange is exactly the kind of movie you want to see in IMAX. And man, was it ever. Marvel did not disappoint on that first one.

I'm making my way through all of Doctor Strange this year and the first Ditko run on the character was something really special. The book suffers after he leaves and stumbles for a few years and it feels like writers didn't know what to do and just kept remixing Ditko until the Englehart run starts in the 70s (tied with Ditko as my favorite Strange run so far)

Lee and Ditko did such a great job with Doctor Strange. They both did a great job with the writing and art, really making it feel like you're reading about something truly otherworldly. I do like some of the issues after Ditko left quite a bit, but after a while, the series never really felt the same again.

As a kid, I didn't care for Dr. Strange, I found him complicated and too sophisticated. Loved to see him with a group, like the Defenders, but I didn't care for all the stories with demons and mystic arts. I enjoy him much more, now that I can pronounce all the words in a Dr. Strange book.
