Defensive zone faceoffs can quickly turn into dangerous scoring chances if everyone isn't on the same page.

In this video, we break down our defensive zone faceoff system, including what every player should be doing before the puck drops, how we react if we lose the draw, and two simple set plays we can use when we win possession.

In this video:
• Our three priorities in the defensive zone: pressure the puck, protect the house and provide puck support
• Defensive zone faceoff positioning
• Responsibilities for centres, wingers and defence
• Why we never want a clean faceoff loss
• How wingers react immediately on the puck drop
• Protecting shooting lanes and the front of the net
• Turning a faceoff win into a controlled breakout
• The Packout faceoff play
• The Around the Woods faceoff play
• Creating multiple passing options as we exit the zone

The goal isn't simply to win the faceoff. It's to have all five players know exactly what happens next, whether we win or lose the draw.
