I’m with you, we love caravanning, to us it’s much better than any hotels or chalets, your home is so much better than a hotel. Caravanning gets into your blood, our second trip the next year, we went back through Switzerland what a stunning time we had, very expensive Switzerland but make sure you feed yourself. Lifts up the mountain again are expensive. But it’s stunning perhaps your kids could do with being older, at the moment they love the pool, the slides, and the sea. Ours were just the same.

Oooh, that was so funny Oli when you mentioned about going away in the caravan in UK and the weather being wet. We’ve had 4 holidays so far in our van in UK, with three of them being 10 night durations and 1 being 14 nights duration, and in all that time we’ve had one wet day 😁 Even back in March we were sitting outside the van in North Wales in the sunshine. Our Hyundai Santa Fé has built in retractable sunshades to the rear door windows which are great, but we definitely ought to invest in a sun screen for the windscreen. We’re like you, in that we always have a float system in an Aquaroll whenever we’re on a fully serviced pitch for all the same reasons. We couldn’t even manage in the UK without our motor movers 🤣. We all “live and learn “ Oli. “Every day is a school day” is my motto. Glad you’re now on your own pitch and it looks like your holiday is now going smoothly. So sorry that your car has been damaged Oli. My hubby would have been positively fuming. 💕

What a great series of updates, we have done many trips to the South of France with our vans, the French do love our twin axles !

Then! our young family (like yours ) throughly enjoyed the freedom, we always travelled with our family with the identical set up( but we had X5s)
Your Vlogs brought back lovely memories and brought a tear or two for other reasons.
Our kids are now 18-21 and they still have brilliant memories, that area is special, if you get time go to Saint Maxime, it’s just lovely opposite St Tropez, chic but disarmingly normal!
Great advice for newbies going to France, I agree with another contributor , I would Sail from Portsmouth into Caen, Route de Sol A7 &A8 straight forward.
I think assuming you got the rig to drag the van, it’s a special holiday, it’s can be expensive, eating out can be expensive, but balanced by lovely evenings around the van, after pool time the back end of the day.
The trip to StTropez reminded us of our first too, may be 10years ago! We too had the queues and ended up knackered at 11 pm starving coming home. That’s why drive to St Maxime and get the Green boat ferry, park up in the marina, save you hours! And kids love it!

My advice get good insurance, and know how to contact in the case of an emergency.

Ps re Aircon I agree, take as many as you can, a good nights sleep is important especially with young children.

Well you definitely need motor movers on double axles, and with all the hedges you need a mover. Most French and Spanish sites plant hedges in a U shape you have to move your van not attached to your car.

I put the front dashboard sun screen cover on the outside of the car! Why? Because the sun radiates through the glass into the cabin.  I also hung towels on the outside of the door frame, then closing the door the towel is in held in place. Again, stopping heat radiating through the glass into the cabin. I only do this if I’m gonna leave the car for an hour or two.

As a family of 5 £3500 for 2 weeks is amazing price we think in a caravan abroad... to go abroad for a week with 2 adults 3 kids on a plane... in half term we easy be looking £5,000-£6,000 and thats for just a week! Thats no guarantee of all inclusive! Def cant justify that and have never spent that... we just done our first 2 weeks in caravan abroad for £3000.... caravan all the way for us!!

It’s a lovely pitch and your set up is first class. It’s certainly not cheap touring to the south of France with a young family but you will have some lovely memories. You’re lucky you travelled with good friends who helped you out with a pitch during your first week. It would be very uncomfortable in the caravan without air conditioning and 1 unit doesn’t cover the whole caravan. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. Safe travels.

Fantastic video again, glad you are enjoying your holiday. Additional tips, it's worth having a plug in polarity checker when on European sites as although they have the standard blue 3 pin plug the live and neutral aren't always the correct way round. We used to always carry an adaptor just in case it was incorrect. Using the aqua roll with a float won't stop a leak in the caravan if anything inside comes adrift as the pump will act as through a tap has been turned on and water will flow. Absolutely loving the Vlog keep spreading the joy of caravanning.

Ports make a huge difference to cost. We use Portsmouth routes and they are double what you quoted for a similar sized rig but Dover is the arse end of nowhere. Weed membrane is a good alternative to carpets, lighter and more compact to carry.
