In my opinion, Mario 64 feels like THE game, like it's quite Peak game design.
I'll never get tired of it!
And the modding and glitches are just amazing!
Half life is also THE other game, what i said for SM64 can quite literally also be said for Half life.
Yeah, those two games are Peak!

You forgot Dark Souls/Demons Souls for creating an entire genre based on 'Souls' combat. Heavily influential.

I feel like Earthbound or Chronotrigger should be added to this list, they are basically the peak of turn based rpgs and we wouldnt have many modern rpg masterpieces like Persona or Undertale without them.
And how to not mention Rogue or for extension, The Binding Of Isacc. They literally created a genre from scratch and somehow now half of the games presented every conference are just rogue-likes.

late to the party, but Super Mario Bros. 3 deserves a mention. it basically set the groundwork for every 2d super mario game that has come afterwards

Arkham Asylum. It birthed the first fully realized version of Free Flow combat, undoubtedly, the greatest form of hand to hand combat in all gaming history. Only being perfected by its own sequels. The map gives off a very creepy look with its Gothic architecture and horror movie like interiors.
It's also a love letter to its source material of A Serious House On Serious Earth and The Animated series. It had the original cast of Kevin Conroy (RIP) as Batman, Mark Hamil as The Joker, and Arleen Sorkin (RIP) as Harley Quinn, perhaps some others were cast to reprise their roles too, but I don't know any else.
It also spawned a franchise with some of gaming's greatest and most revolutionary games ever.
And most importantly, Arkham Asylum is not only a love letter to superhero gaming. It's the reason why sperhero games finally began to be taken seriously.
Gaming owes a lot to Arkham Asylum. It truly is Gaming History.

if you ever make a sequel to this video you should put the Metal Gear Solid games in it.

Not only does Kill Switch surpass Gears of War in innovation, but Operation Winback was the first third-person shooter that implemented the cover mechanic.
