the video got taken down for copyright, so i had to trim some of the sections (mostly around Kendall section) so if it seems a little choppy around there that's why 🙄 can't even rant about nepotism in peace

It’s so insane to me how Kendall seems to forget that we WATCHED it happen. She tells this story about how hard it was to get a job as if we hadn’t literally watched her decide that she wanted to model, only to be signed and have a professional photoshoot set up a few days later. Like girl we were there ? Why lie ?!

Nepo babies wouldn’t be hated as much if they just shut up and stop trying to act like they worked nearly as hard as someone who came from humble beginnings with no industry connections. No, you didn’t.

@Lsjiwhayjjjaahhgsyy92726 1 year ago

I hate when they try to minimize how vital “getting through the door” is

@meghansullivan6812 1 year ago

Stop it that Gracie clip of the guy reading her dad’s wikipedia page is HILARIOUS

As long as they acknowledge their nepotism, are truly talented and invested in their art, I don't see it as an issue. I will say though that, as a musician myself, It is incredibly frustrating to see such mediocre, curated artistry; It's easy to become an artist when you have an entire team and the money to make it happen.

Honestly I don’t hate nepo babies, the issue is just when they try to downplay their advantages. Honestly if I had the connections to be a Hollywood star I would absolutely take it, and I think a lot of people would, but I’d like to think I’d also acknowledge how unfair it is and work hard to also be good at what I’m doing, not just coast. There are nepo babies who do that, and I feel like those are the ones people are generally okay with.

"Nepo babies have to work twice as hard"
No, darling. Other people have to work twice as hard just to even get anywhere in the industry, so when you're up there already being recognized, and now they demand actual talent from you, you're just working as hard as everyone else.

@pixiesam4689 1 year ago

why are we being gaslighted they're already rich from the beginning

@chriscranky 1 year ago

The thing for me is, nepo babies might work hard, but their success is guaranteed. The average person can work just as hard, even harder, and still have no guarantee of a job or opportunity at the end - they only have a chance.

zoey deschanel being like "no one hires you because your dad is a dp" like, why not? dps get awards and work directly with the direction during pre-production and production. that's contacts, that's studio opportunities. you already have someone inside the industry. i really don't know what the issue with admitting that you have a HUGE advantage

@vvitch-mist20 1 year ago

As someone who is a novelist, and has no famous parents, Nepo-Babies absolutely get free passes bc of their famous parents.

@overachiever-undertaker 1 year ago

I think there would be way less backlash against nepo babies if most of them dropped the “rags to riches” or “zero to hero” act.

I would love to see some self-aware nepo babies who leverage their own talents and resources to do well in life with no excuses or made-up stories.

@Witch_of_TheWood 1 year ago

I don't blame her for this, but North West is the worst case of nepotism getting you a role you don't deserve. Her parents are setting her up for ridicule by doing this, so I hate her mom, not the child, but GOOD GAWD that Simba performance was so bad. You could tell north didn't care, and it's a slap in the face to the kids who did, and the performance as a whole.

@kkat42069 1 year ago

Maya Hawk is my favorite nepo baby she also had an interview where she was talking about how she “didn’t have enough followers” to get a role and a lot of people took that the wrong way when it was more like “ if I, Maya Hawk, with as much privilege and power can’t get roles, then it must be impossible to break through and it needs to change” i think she’s genuinely talented and I also really like Ethan Hawk so maybe I’m biased

@theaudjob3267 1 year ago

Olivia Rodrigo also seems to have so much love and respect for the punk/new wave acts that inspire her work, which made The Cure cover come across as very genuine. Unlike with Gracie Abrams...

I have an acting degree and a screen acting masters but affording tavelling to auditions, headshots, showreels, membership fees, networking events, on top of the cost of living and juggling full time jobs, i just couldn't sustain it. The amount of free time and financial security you need to just even break into acting circles is insane 😭 Its very much about who you know and being in the right place at the right time

@omilner2148 1 year ago

A friend of mine who's parents are teachers had been working hard attending theatre school and getting into prestigious programs for drama. But she told me sometimes she gets a small speaking role in film/tv and they cancel on her the day before because someone's nephew/daughter wanted to give acting a try.
A lot of these nepo babies will have had a chance at acting at the expense of regular people who had to go through auditions and casting and work hard for it

@peacehutchence3536 1 year ago (edited)

Kendall is so mediocre, it's like she actively doesn't try when she walks and its infuriating to watch because she's bad but like you said someone like Miley Cyrus you don't feel the same way because their overwhelming talent makes up for it
