"Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 is a powerful song inspired by the Bloody Sunday incident in Derry, Northern Ireland, on January 30, 1972. During a civil rights protest march, British soldiers opened fire, killing 13 unarmed civilians. The song reflects the horror and violence experienced during "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland and serves as a condemnation of senseless violence.

2025 and we're still singing this song, and praying for peace 🕊

1983 written about the Troubles in Northern Ireland.Inspired by 1972 incident in Derry where British troops killed unarmed civil rights protesters

Sunday Bloody Sunday live at Red Rocks is a must and you will enjoy this song even more

Another example of why history and education is so important! Music... musicians express political views through music. It was in protest, exhibition and exploration of the world views at the time...

Bloody Sunday was a tragic event where British soldiers shot and killed 13 unarmed civil rights marchers in Derry, Northern Ireland. The protesters were part of a march against the policy of internment, where the British government detained suspected Irish nationalists without trial.

Pride (in the name of love).   Will blow your mind!  Honor of Jesus & MLK.

Back in the day, Bono would March up and down the stage with a white flag during the middle part of the song. When a peace was called, we all celebrated with U2 at their concerts.

Vintage U2 - you must watch them live, especially Pride, One, Where the Streets Have No Name, Bad. ❤‍🔥

Thanks for responding to this -  the civil war caused huge pain to so many people and left many feeling as 2nd class citizens. Common to see signs saying ‘’no blacks, no dogs, no Irish’ at the height. My flat was blown up and my street had three bomb attacks. It was life. Still weird without now - near a recent terrorists attack in Paris and I just walked through it. If it’s your day, it’s your day. And I didn’t even see the worst. My dad was very scared by trying to keep away from the gangs/terrorists as no one really knew that they were just drug dealers and scum on both sides. I moved away as I got sick of the casual jokes about me being a terrorists for being Irish 🇮🇪. I am still angry at the damage done to every innocent on both sides.

Larry Mullen, Jr is THE WORLD'S GREATEST FORGOTTEN DRUMMER. Listen to how important the military beat is to give more power to the song, marching into war. Kills it in all of U2s Music!! Best concert I've ever seen!💚💜❤️

My aunt (from down under) was travelling between Ireland and England , was approached by a young man who was Irish, if he could take refuge in her cabin as it was raining, she said ok, he gave her a t shirt with this album cover. When she returned back to Oz, she gave me the shirt (it was way too big for her) and told me the story of how she met this Irish man and shared her room with him. She showed me photos of the man, and when I told her that she had shared her room with Bono, she had no idea who he was. She said he was just a very nice guy.  I still remind her of that till this day. And yes, I still have that shirt, 40+ years later.  I always told her that she should have ‘put out’ for him, and could have married him. She maintained that he was just a good man.

This entire album is amazing, love older U2

U2 has had several “eras”, all good, but their early catalog is probably my favorite…

An iconic song from an iconic band. The drumming has the beat of a marching military band a reminder of the British Army's role in Northern Ireland's Troubles.

"The Troubles" were also the inspiration for the song "Zombies" by The Cranberries, but Zombies referred to a bombing in Warrington, England on February 26,1993 that killed several children and injured well over 50 people.

The whole red rocks concert is a must watch

One of the most strong in your face songs about violence and anti war. Our world one day will be clean from wars.

Now we’re cookin! This is the U2 I really love! It’s about a 1972 Bloody Sunday incident in Derry(Northern Ireland) where British troops shot and killed unarmed civil rights protesters.
Bono and Sting? I feel that. The drum track is bangin!!
Next: Pride(In The Name Of Love). Unless you’ve done it already. Still new here

This was the first U2 song I ever remember hearing as a young child.  Being an eighties outcast growing up, I listened to mostly older stuff (The Beatles, Rolling Stones, ELO, etc...) and when I first heard this it opened up a lot of newer music for me.  Years later, I discovered that many of my Irish ancestors came from Northern Ireland.
