It happened. Took over 40 years for an enquiry to announce the British Army had shot and killed innocent civilians.

That was the second bloody sunday, the first was November 21 1920 in Croke Park Dublin.God rest them all

I was English but ashamed of our greedy past.   I now have Irish passport   ❤

It's not an official video. It's U2s song played over scenes from a UK Dramatisation of true events in Derry Northern Ireland in 1972. This is what the song is about. Bono wrote it as a cry to stop the Hatred and for peace. The truth was Bloody Sunday 1972 led many young men to take up the armed struggle and join the Provisional IRA

Yes, Bloody Sunday did happen.

Look it up.14 People  died. IT WAS NO LAUGHING MATTER !!!

January 30, 1972 in Derry, Northern Ireland.  The British Army shot live bullets at civil rights march, many were shot in the back as they ran away, and others were shot while aiding those hit.

The Troubles in Northern Ireland lasted almost 30 years up to the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. If you compare the casualties to the percentage of the population.. If it had happened in the US, 600,000 would have been killed and around 8 million wounded.

I remember growing up in the 70s and 80s and hearing on the news all of the time about the IRA and UK conflicts. Many bombings and shootings.

Over 3000 people died in Ireland and Great Britain 1968-1998.

30 January 1972 when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland. Thirteen men were killed outright, while the death of another man four months later has been attributed to his gunshot injuries. Many of the victims were shot while fleeing from the soldiers and some were shot while trying to help the wounded.

This song gives me chills

The original Bloody Sunday was in 1920 in Croke Park during a football match...equally as bad.

There is a movie called "Bloody Sunday" from 2002 on youtube; very impressive stuff, and quite accurate as far as I know.

P.S.: In Irish history alone, there were at least two Bloody Sundays (the other in 1920).

British Prime Minister finally apologised 40 years later. Thats British justice... innocent until proven Irish  https://youtu.be/vMZ3CtC8KEY?is=ktJqs6t_kvbfvUqI

This was how the British army treated the Irish

It happened I'll never forget it

And then people wonder why the IRA existed. The IRA were an irrelevant pain before this. This act recruited more Volunteers for the IRA than any recruiting campaign could ever have done. The British army, along with Loyalist paramilitaries, murdered so many innocent people. There was a refugee camp just outside Dublin for the Catholics who were forced to flee their homes which were burned and bombed. The British army along with the loyalist scum were also responsible for the Miami Showband massacre and the Dublin & Monaghan bombings which killed 31 people, the largest number of casualties in any one day of the Troubles. The collusion between the army and Loyalist paramilitaries  went to the very top of the British government. Were it not for the IRA, many more Catholics would have been murdered, there was no one else to protect them. I'm not defending or condoning the IRA, just pointing out facts.

This was before U2 sold out. Great band in their early days.

There was a Bloody Sunday. Thirteen unarmed people were shot dead by the Parachute Regiment; a fourteenth died later, and it took the British state thirty-eight years to admit the killings were unjustified. I am an English working-class Socialist. The British government and the British Army have been no friend to civilians anywhere on this planet, and still the sheep follow. Nor is Britain unique — name me a government that is different.

But the Provisional IRA answered it by bombing pubs and shopping streets. Not barracks. Not military targets. Ordinary people on Irish and British soil, murdered by men calling themselves an army.

And it was paid for out of New York, Boston and Chicago. Donald Trump sat at a Friends of Sinn Féin lunch in Manhattan in March 1995, eleven months before Canary Wharf.

When I watched 9/11, my first thought was that American money for the armed struggle was finished. I was right. The IRA began decommissioning six weeks later, after seven years of refusing. It took the towers coming down for America to understand what it had been bankrolling.

It surely did happen 😢
