back in the early 80s this live concert was earth-shattering

80s U2 was awesome!

The song is based on the turmoil in Northern Ireland and an incident in 1972 where British troops killed 14 protesters.

My roommate won 2 tickets to this concert at Red Rocks .....neither of us had even heard of U2 yet alone know any if their music.  This concert changed my life, it was amazing and free concert.

The Edge has one of those signature guitar sounds. Almost instantly recognizable.  Early U2 is the best, when they were still hungry. 🫶🏼U2

U2, the deeper you dig, the more you will like.....bank.

YES! This is one of my favorite performances of theirs. A U2 deep dive is a must. “Where the Streets Have No Name” was always a highlight of their concerts and “One” is really something to hear.

Their most gangster song is "Bullet the Blue Sky', any version

U2 biggest band in the world between 1987 and 2004.  Top 5 of all time for sure

This is U2 at its best. I still love them. But like most of us, they were something more pure in their youth. Great performance.

GOAT. U2 are living legends. U2 is an amazing live band. Like most legends if you ever get a chance to see them live...GO!!!

"Boy" and "War" are classic albums.  Both are push play and walk away!

Iconic drums. The entire Joshua Tree album is worth a listen.

I remember watching this on MTV in 1983. It was a cultural earthquake. Thanks, fellas!

They have so many great songs.  This rabbit hole gonna be a good one.  Looking forward to it, fellas!

U2 - “Bullet in the Blue Sky” (live) is probably the grittiest you’ll see Bono.

Their debut album, Boy, was released in 1980.

U2 have had the highest-grossing tours in 8 different years. They've had top 10 tours for each decade in 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's. They continue to put out great music, it's just that radio only plays young artists which sucks.

This video was an MTV staple and really broke U2 to the masses in the US along with New Year's Day. The performance obviously is great and energetic and shows how U2 early on was more punkish. They did start out in the late 70s. There was this whole post punk new wave thing going on in the late 70s/early 80s. The Police, Tom Petty + Heartbreakers, U2, The Clash, REM Talking Heads etc. all started around the same time.

What helped make this video iconic was the cool outdoor atmosphere at Red Rocks, where you literally see clouds rolling in to create a natural fog effect without fog machines, combined with the flame "lighting" around the arena which is  built into the rocks. All that with the energy of the crowd feeding off the band made for a widely played and iconic live video.

You guys have some deep diving to do on U2, but you should also react to one particular U2 song, PRIDE (IN THE NAME OF LOVE). MUST SEE/HEAR. There are some good very emotional live VIDEO performances on YT.

Yes, they were so positive. Even their name U2 meant you and me. Early U2 - first 3 albums - were brilliant.
