May those killers never find peace as long as they live

The 90s to early 2000s was very hard for second-generation African children raised in the UK, Ireland and European countries. Racism and bullying were incredibly high, and I hated primary school because of it. Seeing the people who went to my school and were racist now becoming parents is deeply interesting. Their own parents raised them to be racist and bullies, and now their own kids will grow up seeing that behavior as normal—the circle just continues for them. Through it all, I love the fact that Damilola’s parents did such an amazing job building a community for Africans ❤️ We give our African parents credit for doing that in the 90s to early 2000s because it wasn’t easy.

It sounds like Damilola was courageous and would not be cowed. He had more bravery in his heart and soul, than those who killed him will ever understand.

R.I.P  Damilola 😢

This was a terrible crime I will never forget I believe the grief also affected his mother to pass away later.

I remember having a massive panic attack about this at 11 because I looked like him, I was his age and I just came from Nigeria around that time that he did and lived in Peckham with my uncle for a few weeks before this happened. At 11, I really thought this could happen to me. Even down the the red primary school jumper. My primary school jumper was also red. So many similarities. It's just so sad. What an introduction to the UK. Never spoke about it to my dad but I wish I had. I'm 38 now and still feel it. He would have been 38 too. RIP Dami.

He was coming home from the Library 😢. This was one of the reasons why my mum and dad moved to North West London. Mum never wanted us to live in South London.

I hope Dami’s sprit is running free, may he continue to rest in peace and be with his parents. ❤

This was so traumatic for London and the whole country when it happened. Everyone I knew talked about it  and I remember women crying when they talked about it. The nation was shocked.

I saw Ricky Preddy at the A&E at Northwick Park Hospital earlier this year and was immediately overcome with asudden wave of rage that this coward is alive and well, able to recieve free health care, while innocent Damilola  Taylor remains 6ft under. Truly cruel world.

This is why I can't take people who say crime is worse now than it ever was in London seriously. So many people have no idea just how bad it could get.

Directed by Alex Thomas and filmed by me.

God rest the soul of Damilola Taylor 🙏🏻

Sincere condolences to his family ❤

Difficult subject to talk about, but as someone who grew up in that era, remember this well and from South London it was hard being African back then from bullying from Caribbeans. So grew up fearing white racism and Caribbean bullying. It wasn't cool to be African till Skepta frankly. What Boyenga mentions at the end is very true. If you were young, black and growing up in South you assumed you internally accepted wouldn't make it to 21.

I can’t believe an innocent kid got killed

A day I will never forget he was my son best friend

💔

May Damilola rest in eternal peace ..🙏🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️💔💔

Growing up in inner city London early 2000's was terrifying. Leaving your house to get on a bus you always had a sense that you could end up in a fight or stabbed every single day. People who think London is more dangerous today then it was back then have no idea.

This affected me severely at the time. I was the same age as Damiola. At the time I kept thinking he was such a nice boy and this always happened to nice kind children. The same happened to me where much older bullies would torment me and my friends out of school. To stop the cycle these kids would bring their younger siblings up to speed and also it did affect how they raised their kids and not to be victims. I would not be surprised if this didn’t contribute to the rise in young people carrying knives for so-called protection. As the youngsters would say not you didn’t want to be caught lacking. I honestly believe Damiola along with Stephen Lawrence’s murders were a watershed moment for young people in London.

What a beautiful way to honor his legacy ❤ sharing and living by his poems message
