Child trafficking survivor Destiny Ayo Vaughan shares her story of surviving forced child marriage, trafficking, severe childhood abuse and exploitation after being brought from Nigeria to Ireland.

She recalls being promised to a much older man at just five years old, arriving in Ireland without understanding what was happening, and later witnessing children she believes were being trafficked and sexually abused.

Destiny also opens up about the violence she experienced at home, the moment she feared she would not survive childhood, and how she finally told her teachers what was happening aged 11. She discusses foster care, PTSD, the failures she experienced within the care system, and the long process of rebuilding her life.

Now, through Mind The Gap Ireland, Destiny is using her experience to raise awareness around child trafficking, sexual violence, consent, abuse and safeguarding, while encouraging other survivors to speak out and seek support.
