It's a shame this movie is underperforming at the box-office we must keep spreading the word to get people to watch it in theaters!

Something I noticed in the movie that wasn't mentioned here:
Nakali is always shown to have 8 suns or moons as seen in some establishing shots which is probably a reference to the fact some of the indigenous people believed that there were 8 moons. The reason the other 7 are gone is because they were eaten by one of many moon eating dragons (different groups had their own version but they're quite similar when it comes to eating moons) the most popular name is probably the Bakunawa. I think it also appeared as a silhouette in the introduction scenes of the movie but never actually made an appearance so that's another great Easter egg for those who recognize it.

I'm a Filipina, specifically Hiligaynon, who also likes myths so I was very pleased with the adaptation even if there were some changes. (Also I'm so sad that I'm the only one at my cinema who laughed at the Tabi Tabi Po joke during the Dwende scene)

I am a Filipino who speaks Ilocano and I have never even heard of the batibat until I watched Forgotten Island! I can't put into words about how much the cultural representations, myths, stories and history is extremely important to young generations this modern time.

Hey! This is a great comprehensive breakdown of the history and folklore.
I just wanted to add context: the film's timeline is set in the 90s, which is also the height of our OFW (Oversees Filipino Workers) industry. So many parents were flying abroad to become caretakers, healthcare workers, seafarers, construction workers, and the like, leaving the archipelago to provide for their families. They also send home foreign goods and souveneirs in what we call Balikbayan boxes as such western based products become prized over our own homegrown ones. It was also the time when a lot of these working professionals start petitioning their kids to migrate abroad with them. And the process of integration into the west was much more influential on these kids than maintaining language, history, and cultural practices. Hence there's the underlying tension throughout this film about re-discovering cultural roots and stories. Or not forgetting them in the first place.

Thank you for covering Filipino animations! WE CAN'T LET THIS FLOP

Seeing Batiba's twist unironically made me so happy. During the promotion  of the film, i kept asking myself as to why they made the Manananggal the dream eater when there were two other more appropriate ones, namely the Batibat and Bangungot, So seeing my own familiarity actually payoff in such a way was also satisfying.

Mermann being a self-aggrandizing and flashy personality may also be a reference to how "Sirena" can be used to refer to campy gay men in the Philippines.

The little fairies may pull from diwata but also could pull from the Lambana, which are closer to the western ideas of fairies than the nature deities Diwata typically are

Looking at Batiba again in this video and I just realized that her design may also be inspired by the Tarsier due to her ears and large eyes.

Also batiba's design is inspired by the tarsier which are also shy animals.

I was shocked at how great this movie was. My son kept asking me to go see it. When his mother went out of the country for a wedding, I took him and his sister to see it along with one of my friends, and we all were blown away about how wonderful the movie experience was. Please see this in the movie theater. You will not regret it. It is well worth it.

Thank you for supporting this film! Seriously, guys, watch Forgotten Island. I want so many people to get a glimpse into my country's culture 🇵🇭

It needed better marketing

I really wish there's a crossover between an indie and a major animated show/film

Both Sun Chaser and Forgotten Island must join together. Because Manny Jacinto voices Bungi and Jordan Santos, and Liza Soberano voices Angie and Raissa.

Mabuhay Pilipinas! Tayo na! 🇵🇭

It's Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken all over again. Except this movie had more and comparatively better marketing plus much stronger reception.

I'm watching Forgotten Island this Saturday to support it.

the frenetic style and cacophony threw me off but I think it set us up for the emotional third act. It waa wonderful.

I hope they'll make a sequel to explore unanswered plot threads and meeting more Filipino mythcal creatures.

You did such a great job in dissecting every mythological/folklore creatures featured in this unforgettable gem! It's very educational and informative!! 🩵💜

That animation looks amazing

I really loved this movie when i saw it in theatres, i just wish it could get the love and attention from mainstream audiences it deserves.

I like how Batibat uses vines, it’s not in the lore but expands on it living in trees. Forgotten Island is like The Hangover meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

2:34 I agree with this especially, I had really hoped to get more things fleshed out, but with all new things, i can notice the pattern of needing to cram in all these ideas in at once. Still does it better than anyhing else I couldve asked for and i love it with all my hope and so does the future!!!
