Zizek has a new sweater, and probably three new books

Respect to the interviewer for not interrupting and letting him meander.

Slightly off-topic, but this is worth noting for non-native English speakers: Slavoj Žižek is living proof that "accent reduction" is overrated and nothing to stress about. He's a brilliant communicator whose strong accent not only doesn't hinder him — it complements his unique persona perfectly.

A society without music and the humanities is no longer human.

As much as you try to steer Zizek into the concrete, he will always charm you into abstraction.

People saying Zizek is a fraud are missing the point that hes just a Hegelian Philosopher who seems to try and interpret the modern world through his philosophical lens. He isn’t a politician or a media personality. People just keep inviting him on everything for over 2 decades because he has some fascinating viewpoints.

This is one of the best Zizek sit-downs I've watched. Great stuff.

Zizek is great at sounding both credible and insane

i cancelled my date so i could watch this. long live the proletariat.

Sitting that close to Zizek without an umbrella is wild.

“You can cheat some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not cheat all of the people all of the time.”

"Bleh, I think maybe you can." LOL!

Slavoj is better than ever here imo. Kudos to this cohost too for expertly intervening.

@35:47 has a great punch line "his jealousy is still pathological...Why does he need jealousy to sustain his subjectivity?"
🤯

1:07:51  And that’s where the atrocity happens. If you outsource your morality, so you can be free of personal obligation, you are just handing over your power to psychopaths. This is what’s happened every time.

Jung said hero figures are the most dangerous.

Remember when we used to constantly talk about the Kardashians? Whether it was out of admiration or criticism, the simple fact that we mentioned them gave them more visibility. Now that we barely mention them, they’re fading from the spotlight. The same thing could've happened with Trump. Unfortunately, the collective attention undeniably contributed to his political uprising, not to mention the obvious online algorithm that loves to play with our technoloy-driven impulsivities which aided him as well. As public interest wanes, so too does their visibility. But there they were, all the late night shows, news, tv programs, and other politicians to ridicule or discredit him, their constant attention only normalized his presence in our daily lives and embedded him further into the public consciousness by obsessing with him.

Problem with "soft dictators" is they harden over time.
Example: Chaushescu

Trump doesnt fear satire, he fears being seen as boring, like in that Colorado portrait. The left should use this, somehow

He is providing the exactly the right kind of provocation we need at this moment. The liberals claiming to be left are a pain in the ass.

Coming back to this in light of the recent killing of Charlie Kirk, in the same vein as Zizek's comment on January 6th being a carnivale and not a coup—Charlie's killing was a shitpost and not an assassination.
