This video essay traces how a temporary, algorithm-approved gaze became permanent surgery: PDO thread lifts, temporal brow lifts, and canthoplasty sold as feline, snatched, and forever young. What followed wasn’t a bad season of makeup. The longer different plastic surgery “trends” are around, the more I realize none of them really make a person look more beautiful in the end.

Wait until you’re a senior citizen. I look back on my photos from the 70s/80s/90as with great fondness. I think I looked great 😂. Perspective changes with age. But I never had plastic surgery thankfully.

I had my cataracts removed last year, and just having my very capable ophthalmologist perform that surgery on my eyeball was terrifying for me.
I cannot imagine operating around your eye for vanity’s sake.

When I was young I could manage fox eyes with cosmetics. I'm comfortable with my face at 57 and don't plan to fix anything. I feel sorry for women who chase youth when they could embrace the natural aging process. Get off the Hollywood hotwheel and be free!

When a person naturally has almond-shaped, slanted eyes—like a fox's—they are beautiful; I have a friend who has them, and she is very beautiful.

I sometimes think about the premise of what would happen if all beauty surgeries were free....
Would everyone try to chase after a beauty standard/aesthetic?
Or would natural imperfect features be more appreciated?

That part at the beginning...I've never had that experience. Whenever I look at old photos, it's with great fondness for the person that I was. I suppose Ive never worn much makeup (makeup has only been for special occasions), but even when I'm wearing something fashionably questionable, I'm fond of that, too. I loved my old scene-adjacent haircut, even if I wouldn't wear it like that anymore.
