Dang, this week's Top 10 Tuesday on Wednesday is early!!

Thought the title was "Top 10 DnD friends" as I scrolled by, thought, "Oh wow that's really sweet and wholesome!"

For my homebrew campaign I ended up taking a big chunk from Descent into Avernus, and I got to use a lot of Fiends! I didn't use a lot of these, though. Here are my personal favorites.

- I made a modified version of a Pit Fiend and of a Narzugon, the Pit Fiend just had legendary actions but the Narzugon had more health, innate spellcasting, and legendary actions, and that was a fun fight. Those are probably my top two.
-Using a Marilith that I buffed in a similar way was also fun (of course two of my three players were pretty busy thinking "hot snake lady" throughout that fight).
-Orthons are a cool concept, but I made a big wide map for when the party fought 3 of them because they were in the middle of a desert, so most of that fight was just movement and it dragged out.
-I used an Ultroloth at one point too, but the party kicked its ass, so I imagine it is cooler when any of it's abilities work, and when there isn't an oath of ancients paladin that makes the fire storm do nothing.
-I used a Dybbuk a long time ago to make them fight a headless Green Dragon corpse (not technically something that the dybbuk can do but in my world I make the rules), and I've been meaning to use it again for something else.
-I tried to use the Nergaliid from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount multiple times as a supplement to a bigger enemy, but they get wiped out by an AOE immediately so they literally never got any actions. Gotta give them more hit points next time.
-I have never used the Vargouilles, but I've had a subplot in the back of my notes for a long time that I've never felt like pulling out. I could probably rewrite it and use it at some point.
-Last thing I wanna say: Cambions and Succubi/Incubi are both fun. If I need a Fiend NPC, I default to one of those most of the time. I will probably end up using a Succubus for combat on a party that is lower level than the level 11 and level 13 parties I am running for right now so then the party can fight each other a bit. Or I can just buff the hell out of it and make one that is like CR 24 because I swear that is what it takes to challenge my players.

The nightmare is made from removing the wings of a Pegasus in a "dark" ritual. I got to run that scenario in a game a couple years ago, tons of fun.

The White Nightmare being a ponyta/rapidash is something that never occurred to me and now I want to use an Albino Nightmare to do that.

I thought this said "Top 10 D&D 5e Friends! " and got excited :(

One of my favourite gamed I've ran ever was with a barghest. The party encountered the last member  of the goblin tribe being hunted by the barghest, they saved this one goblin and then were pursued by the barghest through the mountains.

It ended with the barghest ambushing them on the side of steep rocky slope. During the combat one of the players caused a rockslide bringing the whole side of the mountain down. The goblin died and the whole party almost did too as they fell down the mountain with the barghest escaping mostly untouched. This also happened to wake up the ancient red dragon in the area. (The red dragon did later incinerate the barghest sending him back to ghenna so not all bad news.)

Glad you mentioned the Kickstarter. Thank you!

Good to see you know of one of the best mounts in the game with Nightmare.

Based on the way it’s written, Vargouille seems like a French word. It doesn’t actually exist, but it seems to be a derivation of “gargouille”, our word for gargoyle. Based on that, the French pronunciation would be “varg.oo.y”

Just thought it would be an interesting tidbit from a French follower ^^ D&D has some French originating names and monsters (Tarasque for example).

Back in the days of 3.5, we were facing a varcuille that was keeping out of range..i was playing a dwarven cleric and dimension doored right on top of it, tackled it in mid air and dragged it down in range of my mates. One of the two truly badass moments that character had in his shortish life

The narzugon is most definitely cool. What I would love to see is the hellbred race from 3.5's Fiendish Codex II. Maybe a paladin that almost became a narzugon, but was granted some kind of reprieve and brought back to the mortal plane instead of being turned into the fiend. Maybe the hellbred is the only one who managed to survive it out of an entire party of corrupt paladins because deep in his heart, he knew something wasn't right.

I read the title as Top 10 D&D 5e Friends! Maybe a video for the future? 😄

Great video! those were some interesting fiends. MrRhexx did a good Rakshasa lore video a while back, its how I learned of them

Top 10 Tuesday never fails

I could not resist the pull of the Barghest's lore last year.  I have a module based on a Barghest up on dmsguild.

So far, my favorite fiends i have thrown at my Party have been; Tannaruks, Succubi, Cambions, and Alkaliths.

YES! I have been waiting for this! Thank you sooo much
