I got married at 40. I earned 3 college degrees, moved abroad, moved back to USA, had really great experiences and lived a full life. I met my husband at 39 and got married exactly a year later at 40. That may be unheard of for a Chinese woman living in China. My point is that it’s good to actively look and date for marriage, but life does continue on the journey to meeting and marrying your person.

Hey, 31 here, also Asian, but male, but let me tell you my experience as a brother. Pressure to settle down is real, and I have also been experiencing that first hand. Don't settle for anything less than someone who accepts you for who you are- lack of respect is non-negotiable. Things sometimes feel like a checklist but finding someone with similar values and mentality, is really important. If any prospective husband is bothered about your birthmark, people who are focused on such superficialities are not worth having anyway.

My daughter (Caucasian American) got married at 38 after a full life of work in her career and travel. She’s happily married and has a son and daughter. And now they all travel together! Don’t despair lovely ladies!

A future husband won't be bothered by the birthmark at all, he will see YOU as a person and love you both inside and out! Personal chemistry between two people is the most important after all.

I met my husband at 32. Sick and with a disability, he has a really good job and did not care. We had our child when I was 38. Now I am disabled and often bedridden, he is still here. If a man mind a birthmark he is not much to hold on to when life happens. See it as a way to get rid of the shallow ones of poor quality. I for one find you beautiful and think that the birthmark gives you something special.

My grandmother was pushed into marriage in her day because she was 21 and not married. So she basically married the first man that came along to please her family. She would then go on to suffer a life of abuse by her husband. I'd rather be single and childless than to undergo abuse and watch my husband abuse his kids also. Choose wisely to whom you marry and have offspring with.

Sasa, if you watch videos of elderly people on YT, you will find that they often regret having spent their entire life trying to live up to other people's standards and expectations, rather than going with their inner voice. It seems aligning with your inner voice and desires is the key to a fullfilling life, which I truly belive too. It's your life, don't live it like it's someone elses. We are all different. You don't need to get married and have kids, unless that's what you want.

I’m almost 40 and unmarried and still living with my parents too. There is no rule of when things should be done. You find love and marriage at your own time.

The worst than being single is being in loveless marriage for convenience. You need to really love the person to wake up everyday beside him, let him touch you, sacrifice alone time and privacy, putting up extra work and tolerate bad days for the rest of your life.

I understand that in your culture, marriage is highly valued and that parents often play an important role in their daughter's choice of a partner. Personally, I believe marriage is something a person should pursue when they feel ready. At the same time, if someone chooses not to get married, that decision is perfectly valid as well. Don't let your family pressure you. You seem stressed about the topic. Tell family members directly when a topic is closed for discussion. God bless

Marriage without love is not marriage at all, but rather a future family separation. The couple and their families sometimes make unrealistic demands, as if they want guarantees for the marriage to continue, forgetting the importance of familial love.
