Full video: Which Hollywood Mob Actors Could’ve Surviv...

Brought to you by: Michael Franzese Wines

Hollywood has romanticized the criminal underworld for decades, producing some of the greatest acting performances in cinema history. But could legends like Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and James Gandolfini actually survive in real life? In this video, I break down the personal lives, street smarts, and off-camera demeanors of 22 iconic actors and rank them into three brutal categories: Made Man, Survivor, or "Forget About It."

Watch as I reveal why legendary method actors like Marlon Brando and Cillian Murphy wouldn't last five minutes on the street, why Sylvester Stallone and Joe Pesci have exactly what it takes to take the oath, and the incredible story of Anthony Quinn's brilliant portrayal of Neil Dellacroce. We're separating the true Hollywood tough guys from the eccentric method actors. Let me know in the comments if you agree with my final verdict!

When I saw this and clicked on it I thought you would be judging the characters rather than the actors but this was fairly interesting as well.

Joe Pesci has the shortest Oscar win speeches for best supporting actor in Goodfellas. The first theory is he didn’t think he was going to win, and never prepared a speech. The other is he is a minimalist in many things and “It's my privilege. Thank you.” fits into that theory. Either way he is an amazing actor who can do so many characters.

"Me and my team."

You can take the man out of the mafia, but you can never take the mafia out of the man ;D

Steven Van Zandt was brilliant in an offbeat Netflix mob series called Lilyhammer.
It was like a cross between Sopranos and the weird 1980's series Twin Peaks. Lot's of odd ball dark humor and Van Zandt hit it out of the park IMHO.

I agree except for gandolfini. His co-stars are on record saying he was a hippie type IRL. Laid back and soft spoken. He only got intense when they tried to have an intervention with him over his drug and alcohol abuse. I know first hand that even the most gentle souls can become dark and angry in the throes of addiction

Armand Assante is so brilliant in the few roles I've seen with him, always blew my mind that he wasn't able to become a bigger player in Hollywood than he was. I grew up obsessively watching The Road to El Dorado and The Odyssey, he stole the screen as the evil witch doctor. And he brought out so much depth in the character of Odysseus, you could feel the time and struggle he was going through while being unrelenting in his quest to return home to his family in spite of the gods themselves. I've never heard of the 96 Gotti movie but I'm going to watch it now bc of your high praise and knowing it's him in the lead.

I wonder how would Steve Buscemi - Nucky Thomson in Boardwalk Empire, and Tony Blundetto in The Sopranos, along with Steven Graham - Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire, and Anthony Provenzano in The Irishman have faired?

My clear favorite in the whole genre is the miniseries Il Capo dei Capi, an italian miniseries from 2007 (later released internationally as Corleone). It follows the rise of one of the most notorious bosses in history, Totó Riina (played by Claudio Gioè) and his childhood friends as they carved a path of blood from the small town of Corleone to the top of the Sicilian mob. It treats them as real people, not mythical figures or punchlines. It also has this really interesting perspective from the civilian and police side anchored in a fictitious friend of Riina that ended up carabinieri instead, symbolizing the chase and "arms race" between the law and state on the one hand, and people like Riina that essentially ran a shadow state on Sicily.

As I know none of these guys in real life, and have never been around that life, me telling you my opinions on who you got right or wrong would be meaningless.

I'll still leave a comment and a like though because I enjoyed the video. 🙂

Grew up around the life in the 60's Not in it, but everyone in neighborhood knew who was who. Had some acquaintances but steered away from what to me looked like a short-lived life.

Cillian Murphy (It's pronounced Killian), is such a good actor but yeah, a really gentle guy irl.

1 British "mob" actor that could almost certainly have been a true gangster - Ray Winstone. He's in The Departed but if Michael hasn't seen the film Sexy Beast I highly recommend it. Ray's father actually knew the Kray twins. Less well known, but Jamie Foreman is also a good British actor (he plays a very realistic British gangster in the film Layer Cake) and whilst I'm not certain he'd ever have made it as a gangster himself, Jamie's dad is one of the biggest, most respected gangsters in the UK - Freddie Foreman. Fred literally worked with the Krays and if anyone is interested in the Krays I highly recommend looking up Freddie Foreman's story.
