If your hammer has stripped out gears, learn when to stop. As continuing can be costing you more money for no gain.

Thos Bosch GBH 5-40 DCE Hammer has worn out gears. Normally it's not worth looking at.
But they are simoly not worn out just yet. But the bearing is also gone, so fixing a small cheap issue. Might get some more time out of this hammer.

The repair dose work, and the hammer will last a little longer. But, is it worth it.

What would you do, do all this work. Or replace and buy a new hammer

You can clearly see Dean loves to fix powertools and keep them running, hardly anybody would go to this extent to perform a repair and try their best to keep the cost as lowas possible.

I'm sure you don't feel good about sending that one out the door like that but I'm sure you did more than you wanted to and definitely more than others would have. Likely refused it. There are no bad tools, just bad tool owners. LOL (Dogs, I think is the actual quote) Cheers

I heard ultrasonic cleaners are really good for really sticky stuff and small crevices, you should give it a go!

I bet the needle bearing which fell apart was from the eccentric gear. Dried out grease caused it to fail, or maybe he uses it tilted to its side (or down!) and the grease doesn't get there. Would explain why you're often seeing bad eccentric gears. Then the eccentric could wobble, so the armature could wobble, so the armature top bearing wore and the bottom one in sympathy, so the oil seal failed, so the oil leaked, so the vents were blocked, so the fan melted, so now it sparxxx like Bubba...

Just guesses obviously, but could be that topping up the grease now and then would keep them alive a bit longer.

It’s sad when the full monty cannot be applied. Even the aged requires a little bling to keep going. Still, know when to fold.

Great video, I think the damage of gear caused by user not cared of his tool : if he had changed bearings and grease on time , there would not be such a damage.

The feeling of diminishing returns are getting louder in this hammer. I'm surprised it was still running with all that congealed grease & dust inside.
