After months of preparation, we’re finally attempting to drive our Cummins-swapped Daimler limo from England to Norway — along with five other questionable cars and 17 people.
Things go wrong almost immediately.
We get off the ferry in the Netherlands, blow a boost pipe off and discover that our brakes have been stuck on badly enough to melt the paint off the front wheels. We free everything up as best we can and decide on the sensible solution… just don’t use the brakes too much.
From there we head through the Netherlands and Denmark before finally crossing into Norway.
The following morning we wake up to find the limo sitting in a puddle of brake fluid. A brake pipe has rubbed through, one of the rear calipers has cooked itself and before long we’re trying to rebuild the braking system in an underground car park.
When that doesn’t work, things escalate to raiding a Norwegian scrapyard for a Toyota Hiace master cylinder, modifying it to fit the Daimler and stripping our supposedly reconditioned front calipers apart to try and work out why we still don’t have any brakes.
And that’s only the beginning.
We lose the fan belt, modify the alternator bracket on the side of the road, steal bits off each other’s cars, acquire remote control of each other’s horns and generally make our way across Norway causing as much chaos as possible.
Eventually, after around 1,700 miles, the Cummins Limo makes it to Kristiansund and the Atlantic Road.
From there we put the cameras down a little more, enjoy Norway and begin the long journey home.
Against all odds, after roughly 3,000 miles, the limo makes it back.
A challenging trip, some incredible scenery, plenty of terrible repairs and 17 mates having a laugh.
