What an incredible portrayal of a man clawing his way out of the deepest pits of nihilism and despair

He goes from Schopenhauer to Nietzsche. It's not a huge leap but it's consistent with his attitude at least.

I haven't diagnosed myself yet but sometimes I feel I have a mental illness or some psychological issues because I'm attracted to these things, aspects of society that are on the fringe. Maybe my behaviour for my entire life just stems from the regrets and disappointments of a godless existence.
