I personally like to imagine the following conversation after the events of Event Horizon:
Government employee: "You want to build a second Event Horizon class ship? Are you insane?"
Scientist: "I can see why you think that, but one of our top dimensional theoreticians has examined the data, and he believes he can build some kind of energy field to mitigate the effects of the other dimension."
Government employee: "Really? Who is this genius?"
Scientist: "Dr. Gellar. He's currently working at the University of Olympus Mons on the Mars colony..."
I didn't know anything about 40k but a friend was a huge fan. When I asked him to explain it to me, he said, "Ummm... have you seen 'Event Horizon'?" When I told him I had, he said, "Cool, then this is going to make a lot of sense." I don't think it was ever intended to be tied to 40k, but it sure is useful as a frame of reference! Now I really dig 40k games and Event Horizon is one of my reference points, too.
It may not be officially but I've pretty much accepted it as a 40k prequel. 40k isn't just sci-fi. There are strong elements of horror and fantasy in it as well. What happens in Event Horizon is basically what happens when a ship goes into the warp without the Gellar field as the video states.
I can't imagine a spaceship film without laurence fishburne in it. He was also in Passengers as Captain, similar to the Matrix as Captain of the Nebuchadnezzar.
Event Horizon was originally supposed to be a Hellraiser movie and th drive a Lament Configuration. The similarities between the two drive systems is a fascinating coincidence.
This movie creeped me out. The part when they reviewed the logs, especially. Then I freeze framed things so could see more than flashes of what was happening. And wished I hadn't.
An arm diwn someone's throat was the least of it.😅
I first saw ‘Event Horizon’ in the theater with my friends and it’s remained one of my most favorite movies ever since. I never thought of it as being even remotely connected to 40K, but it’s definitely fun to think about.
I would like to mention that the ring entities also known as the "dark gods" in the expanse may also be manifestations of the warp. And thus connecting Event Horizon, The Expanse and Warhammer 40k.
