It’s been some time since I’ve covered a comic, and with so many of you guys recommending this graphic novel to me in the comments of my Event Horizon video a couple of weeks back, I thought it would be fun to break it down. Helmed by writer Christian Ward and brought to vivid life by horror and sci-fi illustrator Tristan Jones, this four-issue series dives deep into themes of madness, torment, and the corruption of the soul. Combining haunting visuals with theological horror and interdimensional dread, Dark Descent seeks to deepen the mythos and offer our first full look at what really happened before the ship reappeared near Neptune seven years later.

My cousin and i snuck into this movie when it was in theaters. I forget what we got tickets for but his mom picked us up and was like whats wrong you two look like youve seen a ghost😅 i was 10lol

In the novelization, Miller, stuck in the gravity drive but has the trigger for the explosive bolts, encounters some demonic being who taunts him. It says that it enjoyed toying with the crew as well as Weir, before killing them, just as it will with Miller and his crew.
It seems that Weir was just a pawn of the demon who wanted the drive created, which is why the comic seems to fit a little more with that idea, rather than Weir being the main 'drive' behind everything.

The best part about the evil was that it had no shape nor form. It just brought out the worst in humanity without even being seen. Like a puppet master. And they have ruined it with red groot. It took 7 years for the ship to make it back, I always thought the evil would chip away at the crew's sanity, over a period of time. Moreover who would put mentally damaged people in a metal container and send them into uncharted space

Bro.. the algorithm around Event Horizon is crazy. First I was getting shorts of its amazing scenes, then Nyat decides to upload his take on the film itself. I'd say it's a win-win. Time to rewatch it again. NOTE: is there an ultimate/director's cut version of it?

As Lovecraft aptly said; "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." Adding a demon is stripping the mystery. As humans we want to solve the unknown so we understand it and by understanding it we combat fear. SO elaboration and explanation weakens the horror of a situation. We deconstruct the evil and gain understanding where true horror is unknown or beyond explanation. But how long can you keep something unknown and interesting enough to fear people before they deconstruct it? This novel tells you this; till the evil is no longer unknown.

While I admit that this comic series is pretty cool, especially considering it scratches my itch for event Horizon content. I think I have to say that I am a little bit disappointed, mostly because I feel like revealing actually what hell is and what it looks like kind of removes a little bit of the horror and mystery of the original movie.

I don't know if that's just me, but honestly I felt like the entire reason why hell worked so well in the original event Horizon was because it was kept intentionally a mystery, and because it was treated more as an abstract eldridge concept rather than an actual place or thing.

My read is that Paimon (and the other demons) can't physically manifest on our plane of existence - thats why they were trying 5lto get the crew back to their side in the movie. Psychological torture might be fun for them, but they wanted to experience the physical side as well.
