π Understand why your back pain keeps coming back: https://www.theback.coach/screen/disc...
Bulging disc or herniated disc: what's the actual difference, and does it even matter? If you've had an MRI come back with words like "disc bulge," "herniation," "protrusion" or "degenerative disc disease," this video explains what each of them really means, and why the label matters far less than one thing most people never get properly assessed.
These findings are extremely common in people with no pain at all, the scariest-looking ones often have the best chance of resolving on their own, and an MRI can't tell you whether your disc is actually the source of your pain. Your pain triggers can. Here's how it all fits together.

π© IMPORTANT β RED FLAGS
Some symptoms need urgent medical attention, not YouTube. Numbness around the saddle area (where you'd sit on a bike), any loss of bladder or bowel control, leg weakness that's rapidly worsening, or constant, unrelenting pain that no position eases at all β get assessed the same day. These can signal a medical emergency such as cauda equina syndrome.

Disc nomenclature (bulge vs herniation; protrusion/extrusion/sequestration): Fardon DF, et al. Lumbar Disc Nomenclature: version 2.0. Spine J. 2014;14(11):2525β45. Also Morgan WE, The Lumbar MRI in Clinical Practice (2013).
Findings common in pain-free people / degeneration as normal ageing: Brinjikji W, et al. Imaging Features of Spinal Degeneration in Asymptomatic Populations. AJNR 2015;36(4):811β16. Jensen MC, et al. MRI of the Lumbar Spine in People without Back Pain. NEJM 1994;331(2):69β73.
Disc findings more common in those WITH back pain (bulges aren't automatically harmless): Brinjikji W, et al. AJNR 2015;36(12):2394β99.
~40% of chronic low back pain is discogenic: Schwarzer AC, et al. The prevalence and clinical features of internal disc disruption in patients with chronic low back pain. Spine. 1995;20(17):1878β83.
Spontaneous regression is more likely the more severe the herniation: Chiu CC, et al. The probability of spontaneous regression of lumbar herniated disc: a systematic review. Clin Rehabil. 2015;29(2):184β95.
Disc injury from repeated flexion under load (annular delamination) & tissue-tolerance model: Callaghan JP & McGill SM, Clin Biomech. 2001;16(1):28β37; McGill SM, Low Back Disorders.
Matching treatment to the individual's movement pattern beats generic exercise: Long A, Donelson R, Fung T. Does it matter which exercise? Spine. 2004;29(23):2593β602.
