I met up with an old friend in August only to realize, that there was never a friendship between us. We had lunch together. After lunch, we went to the beach. I thought we would be catching up with each other since we haven't met for a couple of years (due to distance). But I regret meeting her. I mean, well, it was a monologue the whole at least 4 hours - she was always talking about herself and her problems, never once did she ever ask me how I am doing, whatsoever. After that meeting up, I remembered that she has always been like that the whole time, I just refused to see it. But I have decided that was it, I don't want to meet her again ever. That last meeting up has made me finally "awaken". I said to my self, "Hello, good morning! Duh!". 😅 I felt stupid after meeting her. But now I am glad I have finally cut her off.

I have no friends - by CHOICE. I got rid of the last one last year. We were friends for 15 years and I just no longer resonated with her nonsense. I have zero problem dumping people who bring nothing but drama in my life. I don't care if I sound arrogant. I would much rather have peace and sanity than people around me that drain my energy. Fortunately, I am someone who is VERY comfortable in my own company and I have a boatload of interests and hobbies to keep me perfectly happy. My mother told me once that if you have one true friend in your entire life you are a lucky person.

Toxic people will pollute everything around them. Don’t hesitate. Fumigate!

I learned when I was 10 my friends were not friends. They purposely broke my toys. Soon after, I let them play with my old toys. Then I moved. Those kids had better toys they let me borrow. I returned it the next day in the same condition. Those were friends!

I think a lot of this has to do with the insight and discernment that can accompany maturity, inner growth, and self-knowledge.  Precisely because you are willing to ask yourself some hard questions and begin to absorb and process the answers, your sense of self and self-confidence increases.  This makes it easier to be willing to look at situations as they really are.  You begin to pay attention to things that may have felt too threatening to see and acknowledge before.  You realize how important your dignity, self-worth, and integrity really are… You begin to gather the courage to admit to yourself that the relationship was never truly reciprocal — that it’s become really draining, that they monopolize conversations, that they’re never really happy about your wins or successes, etc…, and you simply drop the reins.  Often, that’s all it takes.

I left em all behind, especially all my work 'acquaintances'. Ya I'm a bit much but I have to admit most of my stress is gone. I am self-diagnosed as an INTP. Good day all!

I used to have friends that complained about their lives. Health and finances and they were pity friends not looking for solutions. It was time for them to go.

People are people, none of us are great.  We all like to think we are a little bit better than the bad around us, we aren’t.  We’re all just trying to get through this game they call life.  It’s how the system has been programming us our whole lives.  Most people just can’t see it or choose not to.

I've taken to telling the person to their face why I don't deal with them. "No, X, I will not help you because you're a lying busybody, etc."

They think it's because I'm from the east coast but it's actually liberating to let a person know what's up.

Been quite stress-free these last few years...

Im down to earth as dirt

I had a friend since we were 10, at 40 I had to cut him loose because I finally realized he was never really my friend, I was just a useful tool to him. Got lucky a few years ago, my boss and I hit it off and we became friends outside of work to the point his daughter insisted I attend her graduation party, and his father in law and I got on like peas and carrots until he passed and I was honored to be asked to attend his service. John and I don't expect anything from each other, we help out when/if we can, and simply enjoy talking and trading stories. I taught him blacksmithing, he taught me all about homesteading, we both improved each other's lives. We're both a few years away from retiring, so neither of us gives a crap about work garbage, we do our jobs the best we can, clock out and go home.

There's an INVERSE relationship between how much people promise to give you money back that they have borrowed, and the likelihood that you'll get it back. "I PROMISE I'll pay you back". Yeah, right.

People that have to keep score and have to have the last word.

As I am in corporate I assume all of these games are taking place but your knowledge will help me save

I value quality vs quantity and things that bring value and joy in my life.  This applies for things I buy but also people I keep in my life.  It’s not worth it to be angry or stressed anymore.

My relative borrowed a large truck from a friend. After using the truck, he filled up the truck with diesel. Unfortunately, the truck had a gasoline engine.
