The lyrical content of the song speaks deep into civil rights struggles

So complex - a thoughtful and HUMAN composer and artist. Blackbird is beautiful musically and in meaning.

We have been feeding (god knows how many times a day...) a blackbird in our garden. We know the male blackbird is black, so we named him Paul. His partner turned up (the female is dark brown), and of course we named her Linda 🙂

Also there were venues that were segregated, and the Beatles would not perform in those venues unless the venue owners and promoters compitulated and allowed all people who wanted to see them, to come in.

Always enjoy your take on various songs and artists. I was fortunate that I saw the Beatles at the Indiana State Fair in 1966. Cold barely hear them with all the constant screaming. Anyone who has seen McNartney in concert is overwhelmed by his body of work. The Bach of the Baby Boomer Generation!

The Beatles refused to play segregated audiences, so did Elvis and our lovely Dusty Springfield who was forcibly removed and banned from South Africa. All of them have the voices which outlive hatred. Love Will Win.❤❤

As a black man, i am almost embarrassed to have NOT caught the meaning of this song. The Beatles being British were much more inclusive to Black people, especially Black musicians. They were highly influenced by the 1950's Black musicians that were on the radio. They also LOVED MOTOWN!! The Beatles as a Whole are the most remarkable Band in modern popular music from the 20th century. And it still carries on today in 2026.

John and Paul both listened to a lot of American music. Elvis, and the blues singers of the day among many others. But they talked a lot about their inspirations. They did meet Elvis. The description of their meeting always struck me that it may have been a bit awkward. Just my opinion from hearing about it.

None of the Beatles could read or write music...

IMO, the song was really about Paul, and how he hated being in the Beatles, and how he felt being in the Beatles. And was just waiting for the day when he could be the boss of his own band. Paul McCartney and Wings. This was after all when the Beatles were breaking up. But whatever,..... makes money.

was the video SUPPOSED to freeze a few seconds after it started?? Would have liked to have see the entire video. Paul didn't mention that "bird" is Liverpool slang for "GIRL" so "Blackbird" = "Black Girl"
