Pop music was never the same after The Beatles conquered the U.S.A. 🎼🎵🎶

I grew up in that era. I love to see young people discover the Beatles.

And the world was changed, forever!

I was 10 years old watching this on the Ed Sullivan show. I was just inches from the TV set crying my eyes out! The power of The Beatles! ❤❤❤❤

Their first song released in the US that changed the world. We love your reactions.

Right there is where music and fashion changed.  I was 12 when this aired on TV and yes, we were watching.

This was their first #1 song in the US.

This song is considered one of the most important in music and cultural history. It was The Beatles first US #1. 1 Fen 1964.
WHen they arrived in  New York from the UK a few days later, 3000 screaming fans  and 200 reporters greeted them at the airport. Thousands more were outside their hotel, and it needed 50+ police (including mounted police) to control  the crowds.
73 million (about 40% of the USA population) watched them perform live on the Ed Sullivan show on 9 Feb 1964 (the normal  for the show was about 20 million).. That date is also considered one of the most important dates in music and cultural history, A pivotal moment in music,  the music industry,  fashion, and youth culture.

Sarah, it is impossible to overstate the impact I Want to Hold Your Hand had on America and the Western free world. The Beatles had conquered Great Britain and Germany by September of 1963. With the release of I Want to Hold Your Hand in Western Europe on 22 November 1963 (sadly, American President John Kennedy was assassinated on this very same day) Beatlemania was raging throughout Western Europe. Here in America, with an assassinated President, 99% of all Americans had never heard a peep about the Beatles. Though the band's first 4 singles were available in America, their sales were marginal...at best. When this song arrived, this country changed forever. On that 9 February 1964, the largest American television audience (at that time - 73 million viewers - me included) watched the Ed Sullivan Show and this performance, The cultural effect was enormous.  You can see the divide between the adults and their kids on every face in that audience. The parents were mystified...their kids' lives would never be the same. Great reaction young lady. RNB

Thank you Sarah - watching one of your reactions always brightens my day!

Seeing your joyful smile makes this 74-year-old's heart glad.  Enjoy the journey!

You are wonderful to Sarah! Thank you for your talent to feel, appreciate  and understand what is the most beautiful, simple and life supporting in a human life. Pure and simple love.

I watched this at my grandparents' house when I was a little girl.

I was 4 years old at the time and I grew up in a middle eastern household. My mother  saw this broadcast and eventhough she didn't know a word of english she too was captivated.

That is such a perfect pop song. Just a 2&1/2 minute little Rock n Roll bop.

You nailed it, Sarah. This was the Beatles first televised performance in the US -- early 1964 -- and their appearance simply blew everyone away. 😁

I watched this live on TV when the Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. They also did All My Loving, Till There Was You, She Loves You, and I Saw Her Standing There. I was never the same again (like most people who saw it)!

Thanks for the great review Sarah. It’s a great joy just watching your reactions. Love the hair too. I was around when this happened. (I’m 70) The Beatles are amazing still to this day and were trendsetters for many types of music. All of their songs are now at least 50 years old and lots of them still get airtime. By the way, that young lady I sent you two requests for that you reviewed, Emily Linge, is a huge Beatles fan and has done around 30 covers of their songs.

Please Please Me. One of my favorite Beatles song.

THISSS was the closest thing to we've ever had to an alien landing! The modern Western World never had seen men with long hair before. Rock/Pop music had never been heard with such sophisticated chord progressions. And the "start/stop" of the beginning and in the "I can't hide" at the end of the bridge was also unheard of before as well! They introduced multiple techniques in each of their early hits and many of their later albums. "She Loves You" starts with a drum roll and the chorus(never been done before) and is the 1st love song that sung "to a guy ABOUT a girl" instead of the standard "guy TO a girl." The list goes on and on.
Edit: Their arrival at Kennedy Airport (NYC) and press conference was also historic. It was America's introduction to them and their personalities knocked everyone dead. Similar to what Muhammad Ali did for athletes with the press, the Beatles drastically changed the relationship between musicians and the press. It used to be like an interrogation with the musician/athlete kinda being on the defensive. The Beatles and Ali were quick-witted wiseguys who took control of their interviews and spoke like none before them. Young people simply found them irresistible because of this. They were cultural phenomena.
