Paul wrote this song specifically as a dedication to our black brothers and sisters who were struggling, and continue to struggle, against hatred and discrimination. Off of the Beatles' 1968 double album commonly referred to as the White Album, Paul is the only performer in this song, doing the lead and backing vocals, acoustic guitar, tape loops, and foot tapping.

Beatles have been part of the soundtrack of my life since early teens. This song is one I need to hear now and then. It is easy to learn and sing to myself, too. I have definitely felt broken and needed to make this song part of my attitude.

She was anxious because she, nor the crowd, were not used to unsegregated events. (As The Beatles had demanded) She went by herself and the experience was life-changing for her. Decades later Kitty met McCartney and Ringo.
