a lot of the plastic surgeons' examples were Reconstructive plastic surgery not the same as Cosmetic surgery.

Corrective surgery is completely different than Cosmetic surgery, even if using the same medical procedure.

Growing up my biggest insecurity was my under eye bags. People always asked me what’s wrong, why I’m sad, why I’m tired, etc. I hated it and spent a good chunk of my 20s saving up for lower blepharoplasty. I never ended up going through with it, and had my first daughter at 27. I think she’s the most beautiful thing on the planet, and she has the most gorgeous, deep-set eyes… she has MY eyes.

Shes almost 4 now, and seeing them on her makes me appreciate my own eyes so much. I am grateful every day that I never had that procedure.

The corruption of language continues, it seems...🙄
I never understood "aging gracefully" to mean AVOIDING aging by getting surgeries; who the heck started this change/trend? "Aging gracefully" always meant that the woman accepted her aging with GRACE and dignity, taking care of herself while also allowing the process to happen. "Aging WELL" was the catch-all phrase for a person who looks really good despite their age, and that of course could be due in part to surgeries.

How ironic that in the most "enlightened" and "advanced" time we supposedly find ourselves in, the unrealistic expecations put on women seem worse than ever before...

I don’t think people have the right idea about “ageing gracefully”, when I hear that I feel like it’s about women like Isabelle Huppert or Glenn Close, not Angelina Jolie.

I understand the pressure from beauty standards, but women should not underestimate the attractiveness provided by loving and being confident in oneself.

I am so insecure about my nose, I was in 5th grade saying "I'm getting a nose job the minute I'm 18." Filters changed it and i loved the slim bridge it gave me. I still dislike my nose, but I stopped using filters so i could look at myself in the mirror and see the same person i saw on my phone and THANK GOD. I see my nose in my dad, I saw it was a shared trait with my cousins. I saw the freckles on it that I inherited. I'm still insecure about my nose, but I'm so grateful I still have it. I learned to accept myself and I'm still unique because of that.

It’s also problematic to say a “normal labia”, this is a stereotype that everyone’s labias look the same. They are all different and unique. So many women have this insecurity and expectation, I blame the porn industry but that’s a whole other convo. Ladies please go read “Come as you are” by Emily Nagoski, it’ll help you learn to love your body!!

Your restraint when that person says that you'd know if your surgeon was bad based on the appearance of the surgeon. Oh man, well done!

For the example of a woman who’s had several children - “should we just tell her to love herself?” - YES! I’m a mom with three kids and my body has been totally changed since having kids but I want to love my body. My changes are working out more, eating right, and do I want big boobs? Yes but I don’t want to risk the complications that a boob job could create.

Thank you Amala for your commentary and videos on this. As a 16 year old it is very comforting when you've spent half your day staring at girls who look "perfect" (and feeling like crap about yourself) to end the day with your video.

26:41 i feel so sad for the girl that said "everybody looks in the mirror and wants something different". It's so interesting to me when people assume that everyone else views the world the same way as themselves.
