Telling a dangerously overweight person not to lose weight because they're "beautiful" is like telling an alcoholic not to stop drinking because they're "fun".

Being fat because you’re poor seems like a uniquely western idea.

A LOT of these are just excuses, honestly.

For the young woman who said something along the lines of " you shouldn't have to wake up everyday and hate yourself if you're 400 lb" here's a different perspective on that: if you love your body wouldn't you want to give your body what it needs in order to optimally function?

I've suffered from anxiety and depression my whole life. Few years ago, I started eating healthier, drinking more water, and exercising first few minutes everyday.  I feel much better, I think more clearly, it made me more confident, and I look better. It's done nothing but good for me.

I believe that obesity is learned.  My sisters and I are all thin, but my mother was a bit of a hippie, so we ate healthy food. My aunt has jars of candy lined up by the kitchen. Her daughters are both obese. Same half of genetics and different ways of eating. Also, my aunt and her husband were well-off, and my mom was poor. So again, financial privilege has nothing to do with it.

I do squats as I brush my teeth every night. Finding ways to exercise can be creative ad fun.

It is not PRIVILEGE it is PRIORITY. Working to better your physical body is not a privilege it is the result of rearranging your priorities. The cards we are dealt in life can be hard but it is about deciding what we want to prioritize and then structuring everything else around that. The privilege excuse is tired and just a way to circumvent the reality of the situation

I don’t have access to a kitchen and 10 months on a low carb diet I’ve lost 120 pounds and I eat out every single day. I was pre diabetic and my doctor told me to make a change, and I listened. It’s all about the choices you make and the food you decide to eat.

If I can lose that much weight and still eat fast food, these people have ZERO excuses.

So crazy one women stepped up when asked if fit women are more attractive...

Unless you are literally bedridden, severely dependent, or like homeless or something, having the time to be active/make healthy food choices is not a privilege. Whether or not it's harder for some people compared to others is not the same thing.

Isn’t it very privileged to be fat? It means you have a means to eat and more than your body is able to keep up with. People who are very poor usually appear to be severely malnourished and thin due to not eating enough calories…

They kept saying circumstances and excuses as to why losing weight was harder for them... but funnily enough none of them could mention a single thing that made their body size be out of their control entirely...

When did time become a privilege?  My mother worked a full time job as a private duty nurse. She cooked 2 meals a day. Exercised 3-4 times a week. Took me to do things. Kept a clean house.  Our issue today is saturation of social media entertainment that keeps us on our asses and away from our responsibilities.  Excuses and procrastination.

Just to add, since there's a "chubby" pinay, I am married to a pinay, or Filipina.  My wife is a housewife. She makes 5 meals a day and cooks for random people who want something. All healthy homecooked meals. My grocery bill is just 120 dollars more a month, but I had to stop buying the junk and the frozen food. That pinay doesn't understand the culture her grandparents came from, and I am sure it was worse 50 years ago. In the Philippines, you see beautiful skinny women until they marry happy. A chunky (well fed, not fat) well-dressed wife is a sign of prosperity. Filipino men take the bigger boned women first. Times have changed a little and city pinoy will tell me differently, but it's what I observe when we're in the Philippines.  

I have an in-shape rule for my wife before 50 or major illness.   I don't expect her to have abs, but she isn't going to be a housewife and sit around and get fat.

People don't understand words anymore. Genetics controls our looks. We control our bodyfat %.

i don’t even get the whole “it’s more expensive to eat healthy” argument. where i’m from u can get a pound of apples, banana, grapes for .99, u can get bags of carrots and mixed vegetables for $1.99. canned tuna is is $1. bag of large avocados for $6. eggs are a bit pricey but they can last a while. big bags of rice for a few dollars. canned fruits, beans, and vegetables for $1 each. splurge on meats a bit. meanwhile a meal at mcdonald’s is pushing $15/$20 now and the quantities are going down. make it make sense
