Small correction: bodyweight ratio on the feet for Santishi is 60-40 or 70-30 (depending on the substyle), not 90-10 as we say in this video

The author is not only a committed practitioner but an outstanding researcher too. Thank you for your videos.

I'm a Goju Karate guy that has done a little Chi-Kung. I had a little issue with blood pressure recently. I have been using static stances(most japanese horse stance/Shiko-Dachi)to lower my blood pressure. I just wanted to share this because it is a health benefit of static stance training in the martial arts.

Just a quick note on Baguazhang (imo): Circle Walking doesn't have to be exhausting to promote development! There are tricks to becoming more present, and enticing yourself to turn for longer stretches of time over years of practice. In the beginning, just get right to the edge of discomfort and close your circle. Just keep doing that for awhile and there will be improvement. It is challenging, but have some fun while you're there and you can return again & again with joy

Pozdrav svima iz Srbije (Serbia 🇷🇸) .

A small size guy trained in martial art can deal with a much bigger guy bringing him down easily. While filming Enter the Dragon in the 70s, Bruce Lee was constantly provoked by film extras, some of whom were local Hong Kong triad members or ambitious martial artists wanting to test his real-life ability.  There was this physically large extra working on the set who openly mocked Lee as a "movie fighter" rather than a real martial artist. After persistent taunting, Lee accepted a challenge during a filming break. The crew cleared space, and the larger extra took a stance. The extra rushed the smaller size Lee, but Lee was vastly faster. He threw a rapid combination including a sidekick to the man's chest and quick hand strikes to the face, flooring the challenger in under 30 seconds. After the fight,  instead of having the man fired, Lee praised his courage, offered him advice on his stance, and sent him back to work continuing as an extra. This incident was later corroborated by several other actors in the movie.

Love these kinds of videos, please keep them coming and thank you 🙏😊

You nailed it, standing meditation is probably the best way. I learned a sitting method too, but even that system does standing.

Thank you Ben.
This is the most interesting subject. My journey now exceeds fifty years, as I began my training in 1975. There are varied opinions on just what exactly internal power is and how it is obtained. As you mentioned several of my martial arts ancestors I thought to share my two cents worth with your viewers before I finally retire from teaching entirely.
While many schools I've learned about advocate the body being relaxed while working through many different breathing techniques, it is my belief that this is preparatory to power development. This is much like
insulating the conduit for that power. That power can manifest in a wide variety of ways. Use your imagination, the skies the limit. Most of us would agree that those who seek power are often destroyed by it, like the adage those who live by the sword die by the sword. Most of my own phenomenal experiences on this topic are contained in my upcoming memoir, I hope to see it published by spring 2027. I'm finalizing the manuscript now. But to the point of this video. How is internal power developed? "When the mind is clear and empty the secondary chi will sink to the tan tien and radiate outwards controlled by the guardian chi." You must meditate, not seeking power, but emptiness. Those whose efforts are confined to training their body, and who neglect the mind, are wasting their time. There is no real power without the mind.
The conundrum is that to make effort is to lose effortlessness. Real kung-fu is effortless. Train correctly, do jam jhong, perfect moving meditation, condition the body, practice seated meditation. And leave everything to the guardian chi. Seek the Tao, this is a great undertaking.
I don't agree with you that all the great masters are dead in the past. They walk the Earth today, but you are correct when you say they have little or no interest in the world around them. Freedom from the ego is liberation indeed.
All the best.

Very pleased to see that there hasn't been any misleading content under this topic. Congratulations.

What you describe here is only one type of internal power (we call it 正劲, or whole-body power). This really only trains the structure of the body. The explosive power that is typically referred to with the term 发劲, issuing or transmitting power, can be achieved in several ways, but creates a wave that penetrates the body. In Xinyiliuhequan/Xingyiquan this can be developed by training with the spear and in Taijiquan it is often trained by shaking a long pole. I trained it by practicing certain Zhanzhuang where the lower body doesn’t move, but the upper body is striking, through tree-shaking and rope-shaking, amongst other methods. It is the combination of the whole-body power and this explosive power that I believe distinguishes these three main internal arts (and a few others).

Another power-generating method is called 甩劲, or swinging power, and is often developed by Tongbeiquan and Piguaquan practitioners. I would absolutely characterise this as internal power and equally devastating in combat.

Most practitioners of these arts never train the right way or hard enough to develop internal power and/or never spar, so it can be challenging to find a proper master, but they definitely still exist.

Oh, and another type of martial power is 抓劲, or grabbing power. This refers to Qinna, or joint-locking and muscle-tearing techniques, and can be very impressive when enough time has been dedicated to it. Yet another type is striking with the fingers. My Master can strike a tree with his fingers as if they were made of wood themselves, shaking the whole tree in the process.

Wang shu Chin was definitely a legitimate internal master. In the same book Frantzis talks about sparring against other students of Wang who were elderly when they began training for health reasons & were skilled fighters because Wang tought the arts with all applications intact

I'm on my 24th year of developing true chi. It is not easy, and Daoism is hard when you have to live check to check lol

Modern internal arts power house: H Won Gim in NYC. Disciple lineage traces directly back to Yang Lu Chan and he has the gongfu to back it up. Great teacher too.

I'd like to point something out - in San Ti Shi, only 60% of the weight is on the back leg. 40% is on the front leg so it can launch with some force after the back leg launches the energy forward. The body then twists while the back leg stomps with 60% of the body's weight to strike.

Just discovered your channel. Love your research and ability for telling it

Very interesting subject. True story: In the early 80’s I attended a kung fu tournament in Huston. During the masters demo, a shuai chao master & his American student gave an unrehearsed demo of Chinese wrestling. The master must have been in his late 50’s or early 60’s & stood at no more than 5’5”. He was called respectfully the “Bullfrog”-the man was short, stout & has no neck. He literally looks like a bullfrog. The student was well over 6’ & 200 pounds of solid body. That was meaningless to the master as he tossed this student around like a rag doll. Sensing the student frustration, the master allowed a moment of opportunity for the stronger man for a throw. The student picked up the old man like a hollow dummy over his head. The student feeling vindicated, was about to slammed the master to the mat; then suddenly, the master let out a guttural exhale causing the student to collapse-as if his entire body going limped. The student was exhausted & dizzy from the sudden collapse. One of his student(also a friend) told me he is the real deal & you don’t want to f with him. This was the first & only time I witnessed chi used in a stressful situation.
You’re right that these true masters do not reveal their abilities, skills, superpowers, etc. to anyone.

Standing in position for long hours at a time.…seems like the traditional karate training I received. Where we hold Ma Bu for 2hrs at a time. I’m gonna have to add more stances because I’m at 1hr 40min right now with my Ma Bu. This video was super helpful in understanding why and how we do this.

This is about the best Chinese Internal MA's video that I've ever seen. I'm a 4th Degree Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and studied Hsing-I and Ba Gua under Kenny Gong in NYC years ago. Hsing-I has 3 main power generation standing postures and there are breathing and visualization techniques that go along with each. Very well balanced explanation of this ability vs actual fighting which I appreciate. Very well done!
