Imagine being the biggest entertainment company for 100 years, and for your big anniversary movie, you get upstaged by a funny Adam Sandler movie.

Tangled got it right when they gave us two animal sidekicks and they never said a word

Oddly, this movie seems to ironically showcase how Disney has changed over 100 years from a cutting-edge studio into a corporate  sweat-shop, milking its legacy and image for $$.

This movie could have been better if, instead of having a normal “mc is always right and villain is always wrong”, they could have made it a learning experience. Granting everyones wishes isn’t the best solution, and it probably won’t ever be. The story should have been that Asha wanted to grant everyones wishes, but doesn’t understand when Magnifico says no. He let’s her see what sort of chaos insues, and in the end he or Asha uses their wish to fix it all. She learns the importance of limits, and Magnifico is able to step down.

I like the villain's character growth from "questionable" to "comically evil" in the span of one scene

The weird part is it is never addressed that some dreams could be potentially harmful. The king granting a wish that ended up having catastrophic consequences would have led to a great motivation for him and a foil for the protagonist to overcome

What really blows about this movie is that the potential to be good was right there, but it’s completely overshadowed by how blatantly corporate the whole thing feels

Asha seems to have every personality under the sun. She's upbeat and social one moment, then shy and awkward the next, and then angry and wants MORE out of life for the people in her village towards the end. Then at the very end she goes from declining the offer to be the town's fairy godmother to accepting the job right away. That's why no one can connect with her. Her personality is "plot convenience".

And the winner for the best movie... that is animated... about a wishing star... set somewhere vaguely in Spain... goes to:
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

Asha: One person shouldn't control whose wishes come true or not.
Also Asha: Becomes the fairy godmother.

Disney once again making their "villain" somebody who isn't even that bad and is the most level headed person in the room at all times.

This is such a weird series of events. The king is managing everyone's dreams to keep people happy and cooperative. Then he sees the star fall and feels the power behind and reasonably thinks someone is attacking his kingdom with terrifying power. His fall to straight up villany starts with him trying to be a good king. It honestly felt like this was the start of his hero arc. Where he learns how poorly he was running things despite his intentions and he has to go on a journey to learn and sing and cry.

The premise of the story should've been; "What are the consequences of your wishes coming true?" Now that would've been not only a great life lesson but a real good movie.

Fun fact: this movie was supposed to have a love story with the little star. The star was supposed to be able to turn into a person and they would’ve had such a cute story. Asha was also supposed to be a princess and her parents were supposed to be evil. In other words, this movie could’ve actually been good.

Hear me out. Story where asha made a wish to get her father back and it doesn’t get granted and then she pursues it for the whole movie but the climax makes her come to terms with accepting the loss of a family member, and that not everything we want can come to us but it’s still good to try to work for things and make our lives better with what we have.

11:13 - wait. So hes been collecting wishes out of people like a vanpire for years, but he only just discovered that wishes grant him power? That..... thats so stupid and backwards

Fun fact: The star was actually gonna be a shape shifter who becomes Asha's love interest. That's why it feels like there's something missing plot-wise. On top of that, Magnifico and Amaya were BOTH gonna be evil, which I think would've been Disney's first evil couple. There were lots of interesting concepts that were tossed aside, which is a real shame. I think the concepts themselves sound more interesting than the final product.

As someone who works in retail selling Disney merchandise, there was a huge lack of interest in Wish from consumers. We received an extensive shipment of products from the movie since it came out in theaters and sales were so terrible that we had to relocate some into the discount aisle. They really missed the mark on their 100th anniversary.

My problem is that no one seemed to have anything driving them before the conflict hit. Mulan wanted to be a good daughter, tiana wanted her restaurant, and Rapunzel wanted to see the lights. They all had a dream before the conflict. I have NO CLUE what asha wanted.
