Thailand has cut visa-free stays from 60 to 30 days, effective 15 September 2026. The good news: you can still holiday in Thailand for 60 days, 90 days or even longer. Here are 3 easy ways to do it.
In this video, we walk through how to double your 30-day visa-exempt stay to 60 days at any Immigration office. How to stay around 90 days using Thailand as a base for regional trips, and how the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) lets you explore Thailand and the SE Asia region for up to 6 months.
KEY DETAILS
30-day visa-exempt stay: no government fee (but don’t forget your TDAC)
60-day stay: extend once at an immigration office with form TM.7, passport copies, a TM.30 report from your hotel, a 4x6 cm photo and a 1,900 THB (about US$57) fee
In Bangkok, extensions are handled at the Immigration Bureau's Temporary Extension Center at IT Square Laksi, near Don Mueang Airport, not at Chaeng Watthana
90-day stay: extend, take a short trip to somewhere like Da Nang or Singapore, then re-enter for a new 30-day stamp
METV: apply online through the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country; valid 6 months, up to 60 days per entry, about US$200
Fill in your Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) a couple of days before you fly. It's always free.
