The history around the times of the crimes is intriguing Steve, love it ! I can listen for hours to the murder mystery’s and how the cases are investigated and solved.

Love the addition info you give us Steve about the war. Thanks for your storytelling mate, so enthralling:)

Just finished reading the biography of dr keith simpsons secretary. She wrote about this case. A very interesting read.

Another ,very well researched story. Thank you Steve. I have to say your voice is comforting when I can't sleep. I find your videos very interesting..

Steve, thanks for this one, a horrid case if ever there was. Thanks also for not doing what a lot of crime reports on YT do, blurring out the details, well done, this is a crime investigation after all. RIP young lady.

Another well presented explanation of a tragic episode where lives were taken and lost. Thank you.

That is one in depth  story, it really amazes me how the police get their suspect.
If this had been near Hastings it would make a great episode of Foyles War.

I remember this case from  an  edition of my trusty  Murder Casebook  collection.  Where I was introduced to the Godlike Dr. Keith Simpson.  Mirroring the recent Harry Tuerk case, where he dodged a murder conviction and was found guilty of the lesser manslaughter charge, it was mooted he impressed the jury by his behaviour on the witness stand, this theory can be the only reason that Sangret got a mindboggling recommendation for mercy, as the evidence clearly revealed he  exhibited   no mercy to poor Joan.

Fascinating and very well presented Steve excellent as always.

Recognized the name before I even watched the video! One of the most famous cases involving Professor Keith Simpson (next to "Acid-Bath" murderer John George Haigh!) and Chief Inspector Greeno, dramatized on THE BLACK MUSEUM radio series as "The Brass Button". Glad to see him (Sangret) included in this series!

I first read of this murder in Prof. Keith Simpson's book, 'Fifty Years of Murder' some 40 years ago.. (a fascinating read), this partcular murder stood out in my memory due to the sad end to that girl, living her miserable, lonely existence, desperate for some human love and kindness.. such an horrific end.

Great video,  outstanding work from Scotland Yard  Detective's.

A very good friend of mine, Derek, now in his 99th year, and still living in Witley, remembers Joan because his mother gave her  temporary shelter at her house in 1942 just prior to her murder. Derek, personally, told me only recently of his and his mothers worries not only due to her lack of proper permanent housing but also her overall safety due to her obviously vulnerable and complex demeanour. That being, clearly well spoken and polite but young and very susceptible to the requirements of the wrong type of person.  Derek, soon after Joan's sad exit from this world, joined the forces and was, later, part of the big push alongside two of his brothers from France and through Europe. Throughout the rest of the war and the many years since he has held onto Joan's memory because of how her death effected him and that she should not be forgotten.  This, I believe' is why, before his time is up, he, in his way, has passed on to me her story.  Sangret did murder Joan and in doing so did cause grief and heartache at the time but for some it continues.....but Sangret does not win because decent people like Derek wont let victims be forgotten.  Sangret took the drop and deservedly so.  As the good book states  " AN EYE FOR AN EYE " ETC ETC.

Another great video Steve! I thoroughly enjoyed it as usual! He certainly seems to have been guilty of the crime he was convicted of!

Very well done….
I met Keith Simpson as a boy, on various occasions. He’d come to Dinner with my parents. My mother was his Secretary during the War, and this Case was one of his good one’s, and there were a few!
I don’t think that there was much doubt as to his guilt, and there were a number ‘Americans’ executed for various offences which weren’t unconnected.
The ‘Great Cases’ stand out from the Hoi polloi of the usual murder cases, which were so common during the interwar years.

I have read of other crime writers argue that the manner of Miss Wolfes burial was consistent with that of Sangret's ancestral forebears which strongly indicated he had placed her there.

Thanks again Steve, for a very interesting presentation. I first learned about this case when I read the very interesting book 'No hiding place'.

Thank u steve for another well researched and presented episode. Keep up the good work x

Thank you sir.May God bless you and keep you safe.

Yes, Steve back around February 1971 I did my field training as a young Irish guards man in the exact area, memory flooding back,
On usually terrain mostly heath bleak sandsoil,
