I used to love watching your videos. They prompted me to journal. With my ADHD, I tend to neglect the things I love because I get distracted and struggle to focus. I fell off and have been battling depression for some time now.

Whenever I saw a notification for one of your videos, it reminded me how much I missed journaling. Today I finally clicked on one instead of scrolling past and I’m giving myself permission to enjoy the little things I used to love again. Thank you for inspiring me. 🥹❤️

I forgot last week but weekly reminder that productivity does not define your worth!
Its so nice to see your notes not always complete because adhd does make it hard to keep our attention and thats okay !
Maybe someday ill start a commonplace notebook... someday

IVE WANTED THIS KIND OF VIDEO SINCE I FIRST SAW YOUR COMMONPLACE JOURNAL!!!!! I had a long running magazine commonplace journal that I made out of magazines and bound together when I was a child BEFORE YOUTUBE EVEN EXISTED (I am old). I had everything in there, my favorite painting, my favorite bands, a picture of Ben Affleck, omg. Everything. I'm thousands of years old, so it's gone now. The one I have now is a smaller written one full of pretty words, physics, and theories. :) I do have a favorite word in my journal that I'm gonna get as a tattoo as well :D
I LOVE seeing people's commonplace journals so much!!!!!! I love this video!!!! I'm sitting my coffee and chillin :D (I just got off work, it's been a very long bad week and I am very injured)

I love the idea of commonplacing but I don’t think I’d keep up if it was separate from my everyday journal. I tend to put everything in my journal and do less decorating than most people. My brain needs a space to process everything.

I love that you research random things. Keep writing and researching!

13:00 Oh girl that is some VERY technical study on the math behind equal temperament and the inherent problems within. I did not know you had that kind of music theory game. Also, something about this video made me think differently about common place journals, and I like how you do yours a lot better than the more “philosophy” oriented spaces of YouTube. I might have to pick this back up, and I am definitely stealing the use of margins for headers.

I love that idea of leaving a margin so u won't smear ur ink!  😉

Your mind is a fascinating place. 😃 I appreciate this video!! Just wow 😃😃🤍

YOUR hand writting is sooo clean!!

I love that B6 size.   Just a little smaller , still space to write, but would fit in my purse better

You convinced me on trying this stuff. I’m also like “I don’t remember why I got interested on this random thing, but I investigated the topic for a day.”

Immaculate timing because I JUST started a commonplace book and filmed settig it up! I made margins as well becuase I like the look of them. I didn't even consider that they are also functional to prevent smudges like that, especially if you're using a lot of fountain pen ink. Love it!

I think you can describe commonplacing like a "personal reference notebook" in the easiest way. I'm a philosophy student, and I remember reading about the origins of commonplace books in uni. It's basically a collection of references to subjects, topics, and even people or situations that are unique to that person. Think about it like a "personal encyclopaedia"! So it's a little bit different than just writing down everything you're into or like. It usually has some type of index system for all topics, but you usually collect them by category, not by title. Just writing this if you or someone else is interested in the concept. Your book is beautiful, though! :)
Edit: I forgot to say that your book is definitely a commonplace book, even if it's not in the traditional sense. Things evolve all the time, and we should adjust things for our own benefit! Just wanted to say that so you don't think I'm in any way "minimize" you or people who don't follow the traditional ways of commonplacing!

As someone who lived in Abilene, I agree- the lesson is to never go if someone brings it up 🤣🤣

omg helen your notes are so beautiful!! this was so fun to watch, can't wait for the full flip through!

Thank you for sharing. I love the idea of a commonplace journal or an R&D journal. It seems overwhelming to consider adding one but then I wish I had one all the time. 😅

I love this video and it helped me remember the importance of handwriting notes. I spend so much time diving into random topics but then they leave my brain because I don't write down notes. I think I'll swap out an insert in my TN to be a true commonplace insert. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love to see that I'm not the only one using indentation for an immediate visual reminder of the concept hierarchy xD

I absolutely love commonplacing, but a lot of people get it kind of...wrong, really. It's basically a personalised encyclopedia, collecting things that are not your own, ie. quotes, lyrics, articles, etc., that sort of thing. It originated when many people kept scraps of paper or 'waste books' on their person, but when books themselves were very exclusive and usually rented rather than bought, so people would copy down passages in order to keep them 'memorised'.

I love to store up info and then add it during downtime or when I'm relaxing with videos, it is so satisfying being able to flip through it and see all of the information and writings that I've harvested over time. ♥

Definitely enjoyed this worthy video and I feel like my brain grew from it :)

Thanks for sharing this!
