The lack of runout was impressive.

After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!

Why even have a Netflix subscription, this is the kind of content we all need to be watching.

I love that this guy says "a chainsaw is not a precision tool" and then makes flawless milling cuts with it

Max calls himself lazy (for not redoing the dam), but builds more stuff on his time off than I do in a year!

42:48: "I believe that the work should not be tiring, and that the best rest is a change of activity, so when I feel that I am tired, I just switch to another job or go swimming, fishing, cooking or washing dishes. Work should be harmless and enjoyable, and often hard work will do more harm than good. Although occasionally, in a fit of enthusiasm, it is permissible to perform feats of labor. But only in moderation."

there's so few people making stuff with this level of integrity and attention to detail, these videos are special. thank you.

This press has worked like a charm for my projects  https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

"This is my first waterwheel.  I'll make the next one better."
I thought this was pretty damned good to begin with, better will be impressive indeed.

"in a fit of enthusiasm it is permissible to perform a feat of labour"  wise words

“I’m not an experienced woodworker” he knows more about wood than most woodworkers I know

35 years woodworking and I’m blown away! Amazed at your talent

An attorney, engineer, craftsman, teacher and not an ounce of arrogance. I don't know how you do it, but thank you so much for recording it.

Oh, also; the switching back and forth on different tasks isn't uncomfortable at all. It gives the story continuity and keeps it flowing without getting boring. It honestly helps the hour long format flow by in what seems to be minutes. All and all, your videos are great and they keep getting better.

There's a special kind of joy in sitting in your own handmade cabin, knowing it's being powered by your own handmade waterwheel, while you burn wood shavings that you enjoyed making.

Over here, the saying is "measure twice, cut once." Maybe I should measure five more times so my projects come out a little better.

Pleasure of the process. This is an important principle of the art of living. You're truly a skillful man. May your tribe increase.

Was that an hour? It felt like 15 mins to me!  More please, just like this…

‘In this project I planed wood to my hearts content’    I love this guy.  Thanks for your showing your projects and sharing your philosophy :-)

For those watching that would like to know more about the Chekhov’s Gun reference in the beginning (2:40). Chekhov was a famous Russian playwright, one of his principles regarding theatre and storytelling was not to lead the audience on to false expectations. “If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there” as Chekhov himself said. In short: tell your story with the bare essentials and do not make false promises. Of course do with this information as you please, there are many ways to tell a story. In this video he jokingly said that if we once saw a rifle on his wall, we could expect him to do with the rifle anything but using it as intended.

PS: Chekhov’s own funeral was almost  something out of one of his plays. Upon his death his body was transported from Badenweiler, Germany in a refrigerated railway-car that upon arriving in Moscow offended friends and colleagues when they saw that the railway-car originally was made “For the Conveyance of Oysters”. Then on the day of his funeral, thousands of mourners mistakenly followed the wrong procession, that of an army general. Chekhov called many of his plays comedies, even though they often were melancholic and bleak. I think the unfortunate events surrounding his funeral would be something he himself would find pretty funny.
