I made the grave mistake of watching all 36 episodes or 3 seasons of Rent-A-Girlfriend in 3 days, and now I’m here to share my suffering so you don’t have to endure it yourself. This Anime is just...a whirlwind of bad decisions, unbearable protagonists, and a rental service that somehow fuels an entire anime plot. But is it all bad? (Yes, mostly.)

Join me as I break down the absurdity, the cringe, and the occasional moments of accidental entertainment in this analysis/rant. Expect sarcasm, some over-the-top frustration, and a deep dive into why Kazuya is the poster child for bad life choices.

So yeah, I watched Rent a girlfriend so you don't have to...

EDIT: Ok, so I didn't realize Ruka's backstory WAS actually in the Anime, but only AFTER THE ENDING? These mfkers rly think imma stick around for the show AFTER the ending of the episode like nah r u dumb I'm tryna get the show over with so I obviously moved onto the next episode after the ending theme started playing rfuudsahfuisdahf

Imagine being an animator, needing money to feed your family, and this is the anime you’re stuck animating on.

Sad fact: Kazuma and chiharu will NEVER get together, turns out the author himself has fallen in love with his own character and has posted several pictures of himself and her out on dates together. He actively hates Kazuya because he can’t be with her; and he’s married in real life

I feel like the obvious solution to "we leaned into the lie too hard and people think we're really a couple" is "let's do a fake breakup"

I actually really like Kazuya because whenever I feel worthless, I think of him and then realize that I still have more worth than him.

"Mami's villain behavior only counts AS villain behavior if you believe that Kazuya Kinoshita deserves to be happy, and I absolutely, categorically do not." -Mother's Basement from his review

Just to remind everyone, the manga is still ongoing AND THERE STILL ISNT A SINGLE LICK OF DEVELOPMENT IN KAZUYA'S CHARACTER

Awful people in dysfunctional relationships can be very entertaining to watch—if the writer KNOWS they’re awful and dysfunctional. When the writer doesn’t know this, the story and characters get extremely frustrating and in many cases disturbing to watch.

There's a legitimate reason why the two protags never "get together" on an official basis.
The creator of the series openly stated he's "jealous of anyone getting with his dream anime girl" so he makes certain she never ends up with anyone else.
Also, the creator tended to post really weird images of him spying on his anime girl. Like in the bath and openly simping for her as much as his lame ass simp character.
I feel very bad for this creators wife and children. It's legit him cheating on her with an anime girl.

Reasonable crash out

@Myth_or_Mystery76 1 year ago

The fact the creator is in love with the main heroine, despite being married, will never not be hilarious.

Imagine being a married woman and sharing your husband with a fictional waifu.

watching someone get progressively angrier because the writers has never seen a proper show and the director couldn't care less is honestly fun to watch

Drinking game idea for RentAGirlfriend: Take a shot every time some background npc comments on how hot the girls standing next to Kazuya are. Not a single chapter/episode goes by without telling us how super hot the girls are and how jealous they are of Kazuya lmao

Watching your descent into madness in community notes over this and now watching the accumulation of that madness..

animes where the guy just gets abused by girls every episode and blushes when a girl touches them, actually boil my blood

@EsPikachu 1 year ago

I remember when it first aired and ppl really thought it'll be good and actually showcase what being a rental gf is like but then everyone learned how DOGSHIT this series is. And the more it goes on, the worse it gets.

It’s like the pg version of falling in love with a stripper

The main character is paying her to be there and pretend she likes him and he thinks that will lead to anything real, but no she’s just working 😂

And the creator thinks this situation is actually romantic but never lets them get together because of money
