The Stafford Rangers keeper Aleksic who later played for Spurs in an FA Cup Final, I saw him play his first ever first team game. It was for Port Vale against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup First Round in November 1968. He was only 17-18, but was sold enough and looked promising.
That injury effectively ended Wilson's career. Ruptured Medial Ligament that was crudely repaired. He said it was never the same. I damaged mine and it led to 12 operations before it was put right. I feel his pain!
I was there that day 15 years old first visit to Birmingham Remember the atmosphere was great Went to the replay at goodison park,my first visit to Liverpool won 2 1 Wow to be young again
Aleksic in goal for Stafford Rangers went on to play for Luton Town and Tottenham Hotspur...he later (at the end of his career) signed for Barnet but never played for them.
Stoke fan, who was there that cool blustery afternoon. Stoke missed the extra edge that injured left back Mike Pejic and razor sharp winger Terry Conroy would have provided. They should really have won this game, but came out second best losing the replay 1-2 at Goodson Park after controversial referee decisions. An excellent Stoke team that also won the League Cup that season. Gunners were tough.
In the days when they only had one substitute and another 15 years before a second substitute was allowed and another 10 years before 3 substitutes were allowed, which still stands today
Stoke beat us in the 6th round after a replay and extra time. In the first game it was Jimmy Greenhoff who earned Stoke the replay after Best put is 1-0 up. Hard to believe all those years that have flown by.
