"You WILL be found" - Fear Evan Hansen

They also cut out the only song and scenes that make Evan confront what he did. And the song "Good For You" is one of the best in the show.

having dear evan hansen in 2016 and then 13 reason why in 2017 was like a lethal 1-2 combo of “hey kids committing is actually a great way of getting attention”

I affectionately refer to this musical and movie as “You Didn’t Need To Do All That” because Evan was constantly doing The Most

Honestly, cutting "Good for You" was the worst choice they made in the movie. It's the only time in the stage version the narrative explicitly calls him out on his shit, and puts in plain terms that regardless of his excuses, intentions and mental health issues, what he's doing is wrong, and no matter how bad he feels he is not the victim here. By cutting that song out it really feels like the movie is trying to absolve him of his wrongdoing by telling "oh, he's just a sad little guy" for 2 hours.

The only thing about Dear Evan Hansen that brings me joy is the Drag Race episode where Rupaul refers to Evan Hansen as “Dear.”

the entire "YOU KISSED HIS SISTER??? ON HIS BED?? AFTER HE DIEDDD??" line was the nail in the coffin for my sympathy for evan

I will never forget them cutting “Does anybody have a map?” Bc it is a beautiful representation of a struggling single mother, but also the struggles of the married mother with 2 kids.
It humanises and puts the listener into their shoes, so they know what the mothers are going through. It’s beautiful honestly

What kills me is Amy Adams CAN SING but yet she just has no singing parts? Why even cast her?!

I think bottom line is they should have never made this into a movie. It does not transfer well to film. They should've just professionally filmed a show with the original cast and put that out as a DVD/on streaming. That's what they should do with every musical honestly. Most shows don't make a good movie.

Ben looks BAD in this movie. His face looks like a rubber face mask. And I'm not insulting his looks, he's not a bad looking dude irl.

I think the reason the really emotional stuff isn't working is because he's giving it his all like he would in a theatre, but in a theatre you need to OVERperform for the people in the back to still be able to see you. A camera can get up close and show the audience details that they wouldn't see in a theatre, so a much more subtle performance is required otherwise... well, otherwise it looks kinda dumb like in this movie

Like….he was only 27irl why does he look 45 and not human?

I watched Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway in 2019 when Andrew Barth Feldman was in the titular role and he KILLED it. He was 16 at the time and had a similar singing style to Ben Platt but actually sounded and looked like a teenager... because he was.

19:10 this is incredibly important. The person who bullied me almost to suicide took her own life some years ago and everyone I know was posting about how wonderful she was and how she was taken too soon. It felt so odd seeing my friends, who had expressed hatred for her previously, come out of the woodwork to say how much they liked her now that she's dead. Like nothing she did to me mattered now that this greater tragedy had overshadowed it.

As someone who really likes the musical (while I aknowledge it's very flawed), the adaption fell completely flat. I also really dislike that they cut the FIRST song, Anybody Has a Map, which is an AMAZING opener and gives an outside perspective on both families.
And of course they cut Good For You which is completely stupid.

Ryan Colton (Connor) should have played Evan. He was Ben's original understudy on broadway and looks far more like a high schooler. He also was the best part of the whole movie. Platt should have just produced with his dad.

The particular assignment from his therapist was kinda weird in the first place but WRITING IT AND PRINTING IT ON THE SCHOOL COMPUTER WAS SO WILD. Poor kid was so troubled he wasn’t even thinking of self-preservation in his own worst nightmare, most threatening environment.
