Street photography isn't really about finding interesting people. At least, not at first.
In this video, I deliberately go out and photograph light without subjects. I look for pockets of light, shadows, contrast and interesting scenes, then figure out how I want to expose them before worrying about whether anyone walks into the frame.
Because here's my theory:
Find the light first. The subjects will show up.
Learning to recognize good light, anticipate where it's going and expose for it can completely change the way you approach street photography. Instead of chasing people and hoping they wander into good light, find the photograph first...then wait for life to enter it.
Chase light. Forget the people. They'll come.

I'm convinced that learning to see the light first completely changes the way you shoot. Find the photograph...then let somebody walk into it.
Which do you chase first? 👇
