I use completely manual because I'm better than everyone and a " proper" photographer...
I MIGHT use auto ISO just to make the unwashed plebs feel as if they are in my league, it's part of my " you're not worthy" outreach programme 🤪😂

I have to say, your video is pure gold!!

This is a practical video. I like shooting on AP. It allows you to focus on photography and simplifies the process

I just rediscovered Aperture Priority after shooting for 13 years and its the best feeling. 😂

I use "Fv" (Flexible Priority) on my Canon R3, the best of all worlds controlled by 2 dials.

I shoot aperture priority and toggle auto ISO minimum shutter speed to fast/standard/slow etc depending on situation. Have exposure compensation set on my front dial, which is great for quick adjustments

Just wanna say I’ve really been enjoying your content my friend

I really wanted to do a full reset of my camera settings and start from scratch, so this video could not have come at a better time

Auto ISO makes perfect sense if you trust the RAW files your camera gives you. The same goes for setting a minimum shutter speed based on what you can reliably handhold, usually around twice the focal length if there’s no IBIS. Once that’s set, you can pretty much just concentrate on composition and shoot. It’s a different story in a studio environment, of course. Auto ISO is probably the first thing you turn off there.

Great video and thank you for sharing- What in body camer settings do you use for AF on your Canon? Seems nobody discusses this.

I forgot how to use manual for a while after using aperture prio for so long haha

Really excellent

I sometimes use the touch and drag, but since upgrading to the R5II I've largely abandoned it in favour of eye control AF. For those of you who have tried it without success, give it another shot with the AF pointer (or cursor) turned off. It's made a huge difference for me in terms of usability.

Such a great video! In terms of underexposing, I find that I have way more highlight latitude in the RAW file while editing, than the histogram shows while taking pictures. A lot of times, photos look overexposed, but are perfectly exposed when editing them later. So I started to not underexpose a lot of my photos anymore. Curious how you're treating this!

Good advice, makes sense. Thanks.

I like you photos.

I set it to manual but iso on auto. So I can control both shutter speed and aperture. Continuous AF of course.

@AndrewNuttall 1 month ago

I do the opposite, use manual and if things are changing fast set auto iso. When in auto iso I'll drop the shutter speed down as needed to keep the iso in a more reasonable range. Exposure comp on the control ring, though rarely do I need it since the beauty of Canon's higher range cameras (R5 original for me) lets you be in auto-iso but temporarily override it for the shot and then it'll revert back to auto after going idle.
