In about 5 hours i'll be seeing BABYMETAL for the first time! i'll be documenting some parts of my time going tonight and will post a review of the show (probably Friday) Let me know if there's anything you want me to cover for my review!

This song is what made me a bm fan. 🤘🦊
6:45 they have alot of "mature sounding" songs on their 1st and 2nd album too, you should check out syncopation (live at legend mm), No rain no rainbow (Live at Budokan 2021) and from dusk till dawn (Live at Budokan 2021). these 3 are all fairly mature. you should really dig into their 1st and 2nd album bro there's alot of gems in there.

👍👍An awesome, awesome, awesome performance. One of my favorites. The MV is also a must see. Great reaction. 🦊     🖖❤

Good reaction.  This is a very unusual performance for reactions (Legend 43 was released as a movie so videos are blocked more often than not).  Other live versions show the choreo a bit better I feel.

The bridge where Su picks Moa and Momo back up is always on track, they are simply giving a theatrical performance at that point - all the vocals otherwise (including Moa and Momo with the "Seiya, Soya" parts) are live.

'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016 when Su-metal was 18, Yuimetal and Moametal were both 16, very nearly 17).  As the lead single it is more "radio friendly" or softer than many of their other songs  - and you will find some very good heavy and more mature sounding songs among their early ones as well.
It is about fighting adversity.  When life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times.

They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well.  As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards.

They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists).

This song and the official video (which is well worth watching, the visuals really do explain the meaning of the song with them conjuring up and fighting their own inner demons) won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".

Absolutely love the Legend 43 movie - the drums and bass mix is higher than anything else I’ve heard. Standout.

You chose a rare content video of 'Karate' from the live show in Okinawa.
'43' is normally pronounced 'shi-ju-san', 'yon-ju-san'', or so in Japanese, but in this case, BABYMETAL lets us read it as 'shisa' (シーサー, shihsah). This is because it refers to the traditional Okinawan guardian like lion. I think it is the usual BM's pun. The pronunciation might be similar to 'she-ser' in English...
Thank you from Japan!

❤

Even after all those years, I find Karate quite fascinating. I think it may be the perfect combination of Metal and Pop. Sometimes I find myself thinking „Damn, it’s so heavy“, and other times it’s „Ooh, this is so sweet and poppy“.
I recommend watching the official music video as well, it’s their best one, in my opinion. It’s also quite self-explanatory in terms of the message of the song. And it’s one of the very few cases where I prefer the studio sound, because the guitar riff is just a bit more punchy.

Nice reaction, thanks!
Just so you know, Legend 43 footage tends to be highly conflictive with copyright. It's probably because they edited it like a movie so we had the opportunity to see it in theaters with Dolby Atmos and everything. I have to say that it sounded incredible.  😁
Yep, "Karate" is on their poppier side (imo) but that main riff comes out from nowhere and hits you like a bus.
Lyrics are about resilience and endurance. Su-metal mentioned in an interview that karate perfectly represents this metaphor because it's the only martial art without "ukemi" (the techniques used in many martial arts to fall "properly").
🤘🦊

Nice one! I know you like their newer stuff, but I do hope you check out some of their older songs too! Lots of great ones in there.

Also, just to clarify: Moa and Momo will sing live probably 75% of the time. They’re focused more on the choreo and crowd interactions.

For example, if you rewatch this video you should be able to clear hear Moa and Momo’s live vocal lines, vs when it’s tracked. They don’t try to hide it either.

🍑 ⚡ 💕 / 👻 👻 👻 - Great choice.
There's a good reason it was the featured single from the second album.
They converted quite a few people in other bands performing it at metal festivals.
With both the heavy riffs, and the choreography.  : )
Both Clint Tustin, the bassist at this concert, and the current bassist Matt Deis are big Dingwall fans.
Tustin is now the guitarist for the progressive metalcore band Erra.
Deis is known for CKY and All That Remains.

First of all nice reaction. Secondly, all the ladies sing and have great voices. Though of course Su is the lead vocalist. Babymetal's songs have a lot of depth and so many different levels that they do use backing tracks for all kinds of effects. For instance there are many songs that have portions with keyboards. And to my admittedly far from comprehensive knowledge they've only ever had an actual keyboard being played on stage once (Legend S "No Rain, No Rainbow"). So all those other times the keys are on backing tracks.

Everybody involved with Babymetal work their butts off to give the fullest, most exciting performance they can. And you may have nailed it here. Try singing and doing karate moves, plus falling down and then getting up again...while continuing to sing?! To me it's a concession to putting on the best show they can.
