In Episode 6 of our Utror Valley journey, we explore one of the most hidden and beautiful places in Swat, Pakistan — Maidan Banda. Very few videos are available online about this incredible place, which makes this journey even more special.
Our journey starts from Kalam. From Kalam, we travel towards Utror Valley and then continue towards Gabral Valley. Along the way, we pass through Gujjar Gabral and several small mountain villages surrounded by beautiful landscapes.
There is a point in the village where you have to park your bike. From there, the road continues by jeep. If you are travelling towards Kharkhari Lake, it takes around 30 minutes on foot or about 15 minutes by jeep.
After Kharkhari Lake, the real adventure begins. There is no proper road towards Maidan Banda, and the rest of the journey is a mountain trekking route. The trek from Kharkhari Lake to Maidan Banda takes around 2.5 to 3 hours one way, depending on your speed and trail conditions.
We reached Kharkhari Lake the previous day and decided to camp a little further ahead. We spent the night there in complete peace and silence. There was almost nobody around us, except for one or two small houses belonging to local shepherds.
The next morning, we had breakfast, packed our bags and started our trek towards Maidan Banda. The trail is not easy. You have to cross many rocky sections and walk through a challenging mountain path, but the natural beauty along the way makes the journey unforgettable.
After around two hours of trekking, we finally reached Maidan Banda — and the view was absolutely breathtaking. The area has a huge open green meadow surrounded by beautiful mountains, giving it a peaceful and untouched natural atmosphere.
One side of Maidan Banda offers views towards the glacier, while the surrounding mountains open up several possibilities for further exploration. From this region, experienced trekkers can continue towards Chitral, descend towards the Sulas side, or explore trekking routes leading towards other mountain lakes.
Maidan Banda is not just a destination; it is an adventure through the remote mountains of Swat. If you love hidden places, mountain trekking, camping, green meadows and untouched nature, this journey is for you.
