We invite you to join us for an in-depth look at one of the most important exhibitions ever dedicated to Corto Maltese and his creator, the legendary Hugo Pratt: Corto Maltese, une vie romanesque, held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in late 2024. We've unearthed this special feature from our archives, which I created with my friend Javier Ruiz, filmmaker and cinematographer. We dive headfirst into discussing over 50 original Corto Maltese artworks, including some of his most iconic pages, panels, and images, spanning the character's entire history from the 1970s to the late 1990s. The exhibition brings together drawings from virtually every book in which Corto appeared: The Celts, The Ethiopians, Corto Maltese in Siberia, The Golden House of Samarkand, Youth, Tango… and many more.
The exhibition is also a magnificent opportunity to closely examine Hugo Pratt's technique: his pencil sketches, his various inking methods, his controversial use of markers, his remarkable sense of composition, his minimalist graphic calligraphy, and his mastery of watercolor and color.
Above all, this exhibition is a tribute to one of the great storytellers of comics and a unique opportunity to learn about and enjoy the art of comics. We hope you enjoy these almost two hours of content without feeling overwhelmed or overwhelmed: you don't have to watch it all in one sitting!
Best regards, and thanks for watching The Swimming Pool.
Many thanks to Javier Ruiz for joining me on this visit.
Produced and created by Andres Sanz
Music by Santiago Rapallo and Javier Adán.
