La Piscina Comics interviews Victoria Bermejo, author of the book "Conocerlo es amarlo" (Editorial Efe Eme), a compilation of interviews she conducted with leading comic book artists from the legendary magazine CAIRO: Montesol, Mique Beltrán, Pere Joan, Daniel Torres, Guillem Cifré, Tha, Sento, Micharmut, Gallardo, Ramón de España, Roger, Coll, and Ignacio Vidal-Folch.
Cairo, launched in 1981 during the so-called comic book boom, championed modernity, the clear line style, and Franco-Belgian influence, offering an alternative to the dominant genres of sword and sorcery, fantasy, erotica, and superheroes. In "Conocerlo es amarlo," Bermejo interviewed the magazine's artists and writers monthly, treating them as established artists even though they were still developing. These interviews now constitute a unique testament to the thoughts and concerns of a generation of young authors who would later become key figures in Spanish comics. We recall the controversies—such as the debate between the "chunga" (shady) and "línea clara" (clear) lines, or the scandal surrounding the Tintin exhibition at the Miró Foundation—and the origins of Cairo, a magazine launched by Joan Navarro with the collaboration of Ignacio Vidal-Folch, Ramón de España, and Victoria Bermejo, under the Norma publishing house, directed by Rafael Martínez.
