Pinned post for Q&A :)

A note on being rude: when Drachinifel refers to French battleships as "floating hotels" or "the squadron of experiments" you might think this is stereotypical English rudeness about the French, but not so. It is French naval officers and defence officials themselves, at the time, who came up with these names, and Drach is just translating them into English. French officers of the era were just as horrified by what their naval architects and procurement officials produced as we are today.

French admirals looking at Nelson and Rodney:
"si incivilisé"

It's amazing how far the 5 minute guide has spiraled

30:35 "Dunkerque and Strasbourg blasting la Marseillaise over their loudspeakers with all the lyrics about cutting throats and washing the field of France woth the blood of their ennemis"
That's why I love my country, we have a sense of staging :)

Always had a soft spot for the all forward gun battleship designs from that era. To me they all looked powerful and aggressive.

"...to, shockingly, break their word again!" How few words are needed to express such an emotion! 😁

idk why but I find Japanese and French designs to be the most fascinating. They just have a look about them.

French and Italian warships of ww2 were just pleasant aesthetically - imagine if they were allied and sailing together and fighting together. Vittorio Veneto and Dankerque sailing alongside in the Mediterranean at dusk....

Star Wars quotes in a Drachinifel episode? A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!

that last photo of the barrels cut with a flame cutter is so sad

Your april fools yesterday was the only april fools ive fallen for in years well done

30:48 "with all the lyrics about cutting throats and watering the fields of France with the blood of their enemies" 😄
Impure blood.

It's fascinating how critical a role infrastructure played in France's naval history.  It's obvious now that it's been pointed out and described, but I had never even thought about it before this video.  Glad I watched it!

Hey Drach.
I keep seeing photos of these enormous shipyards and hearing about how important infrastructure is to building and maintaining a navy but I would really like someone with in depth knowledge to tell HOW these yards actually work?
Can you cast illumination on this? (he types knowing you can…😊)

The Dunkerque class are beautiful and elegant ships, designed and built to their best in lieu of the restrictions of treaty, resources, and infrastructure. It is quite sad that these ships never was able to serve fully and simply wrecked at Mers-el-Kebir.

Great job again Drach and I'm still wishing that the Leviathon video had been true.

I think that exploding patrol boat with the depth charges came pretty close to the explosive power of a small tactical nuke.

the longer 12in armed design would only fit in One set of dock facilites, found at Toulon.
Because it was: TOO LONG

praise and accolades to the grand admiral of the lorefleet, Drachinifel the mighty.
