Pinned post for amusing Q&A :D

That Leviathan was never fitted with a nuclear reactor was one of the greatest lost opportunities of the Royal Navy.

@DutchBlackMantha 1 year ago

I think the most implausible part of HMS Leviathan's tale is that parliament authorised the formation of a museum ship that size.

Ultimate Admiral Dreadnaughts: "You can take a ship from 1890 and keep modernizing her through 1950." Drach: "Hold my rum ration"

@davidhills3100 1 year ago

I spent an embarrassingly long time going "I don't remember reading about any of this. Why don't I remember any of this?" before I twigged.

@DavidHodson-n5c 1 year ago

This is not a "What if?" scenario, it is an "If only" scenario. Truly magnificent sir, magnificent.

Drach, an engineer: sees Great Eastern I have a fantastic idea. Proceeds to create the most believable off the wall scenario to date.

When Drach said she was still around for her 120th birthday in Portsmouth, I started to get nervous if she was going to cap off her career by sailing down to the Falklands in 1982

@48:43 "By the power of Brunel" sounds like the ultimate religious injunction for an industrial religious sect in a steampunk future past. Love it.

The best part of this april fools is the idea the royal navy would have enough money to do this.

Tho im surprised fisher wasnt assigned as captain to solo entire navies XD.

Leviathan impaling a U Boat on its bow: “Did you hear something? No? Hmm, must’ave been the wind.”
German sailors: confused screeching

You forgot about the time the HMS Leviathan accidentally collided with HMCS Habakkuk. While both ships survived, the force of the impact led to the start of the Manhattan Project.

@deezn8tes 1 year ago

Even in an alternate reality, Drach still remembers to put the Bismarck in its place (deep under the Atlantic Ocean)

@Oliver-GS 1 year ago

From Victorian ICBM launcher, to proto-Habakuk, to bane of the Bismarck, the Leviathan truly deserves its place in naval history

@stephenierenton 1 year ago

when HMS Leviathan turns up on your coast, you start drinking Tea, eating crumpets and moan about the weather

@masterskrain2630 1 year ago

I just want to see a video of the "Leviathan" pirouetting like an insane ballerina between the Alabama and the Kearsarge!

@JayVeeEss36 1 year ago

The most unbelievable part of this story was that the UK made her a museum ship and didn't scrap her at the first opportunity

@FltCaptAlan 1 year ago

I lost it at Leviathan's encounter with the sub

If "Forrest Gump" movie was about a ship, It would have been this.

@UaWRD 1 year ago

A lot of ships are falsely described as "unsinkable". SS Great Eastern might be the only ship adequately described as unfloatable.
