DAAS – Doug Anthony All Stars – “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” reaction! THE WOLF HUNTERZ REACTIONS dive into this unforgettable live performance by the legendary Australian musical comedy trio Doug Anthony All Stars (DAAS). Known for their outrageous humor, theatrical performances, incredible vocal harmonies, and unpredictable stage presence, DAAS put their own distinctive spin on the Motown classic made famous by Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight & the Pips.
Originally formed in Canberra, Australia, in 1984, Doug Anthony All Stars became one of Australia's most recognizable alternative comedy acts. The classic lineup of Paul McDermott, Tim Ferguson, and Richard Fidler combined musical talent, sharp satire, dark comedy, and audience interaction to create a style that was unlike anything else on the comedy circuit.
Their popularity grew through appearances at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the Australian television comedy program The Big Gig. They eventually starred in their own ABC television series, DAAS Kapital, and developed an international following.
🎤 ABOUT THE SONG
“I Heard It Through the Grapevine” was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong and became one of Motown's most celebrated songs. Gladys Knight & the Pips scored a major hit with it in 1967, followed by Marvin Gaye's enormously successful version in 1968. Creedence Clearwater Revival also recorded a famous extended rock interpretation.
The song's themes of betrayal, jealousy, heartbreak, and discovering the truth through rumors have made it a timeless favorite.
Doug Anthony All Stars approach the classic with their own combination of musical interpretation, vocal talent, theatrical storytelling, and distinctive Australian humor. Their version demonstrates how a familiar song can take on an entirely different character in the hands of unconventional performers.
In this reaction, Travis and Suzi experience DAAS's interpretation of this legendary song, taking in the vocals, harmonies, stage presence, and unique approach that made the group such a memorable part of Australian entertainment.
🎭 DAAS – LIVE PERFORMANCES & TOUR HISTORY
Doug Anthony All Stars developed their reputation through live performances across Australia and internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom.
Their appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe helped introduce them to international audiences, while their television success brought their unusual combination of music and comedy to an even larger following.
Following their original breakup in 1994, DAAS reunited for special appearances and returned to touring in 2014 with Paul McDermott, Tim Ferguson, and Paul Livingston, better known as Flacco.
Their live performances and television work also helped establish them alongside a generation of Australian alternative comedy acts, including The D-Generation, Tripod, and Lano & Woodley.
No upcoming DAAS concert dates have been confirmed for inclusion in this description.

Hi Travis and Suzi. “I heard it Through the Grapevine” is the big one for Doug Anthony All Stars fans. Paul McDermott, Paul Ferguson (that’s the tall one) and Richard Fidler (the guitarist), are doing a serious cover of Marvin Gaye’s song, so you don’t have to try to pick up for any jokes. Just sit back and enjoy this hauntingly beautiful performance.

DAAS were brilliant and SO funny. Seeing their show live, sometimes resulted in indulging in combat with them for fun, as part of the audience, and their singing was excellent.
1:27 I think the die hard DAAS fans don't listen to the original version 😂.
I was hesitant to request for this clip as Travis and Suzi didn't seem to appreciate Paul, Tim and Richard singing and harmonies in the Throw Your Arms Around Me.
Fortunately DAAS won over Travis and Suzi here. It was wonderful to watch them be as engrossed in the performance as the audience was 😊.
6:01 I would imagine, with all the requests Travis and Suzi do, she didn’t recognise that is Paul McDermott, from GNW requests.
I also plan to request for DAAS "The Auld Triangle".
