Phoebe and David the scientist that was the most shattering break up to me

So glad the "Will they won't they" and "On and off again" couple tropes are dying on tv shows. At one point it seemed so romantic and passionate, but now just seems immature and toxic

you should talk about the bromance between chandler and joey

I always thought Chandler saying “and I want a million dollars” was funny because he basically predicted their future per episode salary.

Did anyone else start off liking Ross and Rachel as a couple, only to tire of the way the writers toyed with having them be on/off for so long? They realized that they had gotten them together too quickly, and perhaps thought that it was more riveting to keep them apart. They spent so much time fighting with each other, and trying to sabotage each other's relationships, and their  mutual refusal to accept any kind of blame for problems. Part of this can be explained by how they were each spoiled by their parents growing up, as they were so used to being validated by their respective parents, and as a result, were both self-centered and egotistical. Sure, they may have ended the series reconciled, but how long is it going to last? Towards the end, I was more partial towards Monica and Chandler, as they grew up fighting for love, and once they got together, that love was extremely precious to them, so they worked harder at it.

I agree with everyone that Monica and Chandler are the real couple to focus on BUT this episode is about how Ross and Rachel are WRITTEN not if they are a good model for a relationship:)

Wow a video that doesn't dismiss Ross and Rachel as a lost cause? That's refreshing.

While I do think that Ross and Rachel were a very toxic couple in season 2-3 while they were dating, it was always obvious that they loved each other. But the question was never their love for each other but the way they perceived their relationship. Rachel always felt like she could be doing more with her life in season 3 ( I mean she didnt leave Barry to end up in another relationship which defined her whole life) while Ross was obsessed with this idealized image of her.  As they broke up, they started to find their place in life and also get a chance to get to know each other finally without any expectations. After years of friendship and no expectations, both ross and Rachel grew their bond into one  of acceptance and true love. And when the time came, they  were both ready and mature enough to handle a relationship that they always wanted.

So I don't see them as a bad couple, I see them as a couple in love who were too immature to handle their own relationship and so took time for themselves to truly grow up and finally get back together when they realized that after all these years, that their love has only grown into something more beautiful.

Please analyze chandler and Monica’s relationship next

Chandler & Monica > Ross & Rachel

To me, people give their relationship too much flack now. In the beginning the relationship didn't work because they had unrealistic expectations. Ross wanted to be Rachel's savior/protector and Rachel fed right into that by thinking Ross was a saint who couldn't hurt her in the first 3 seasons. Bottom line is anybody can hurt you especially your loved ones. Also Ross wasn't in the right frame of mind for another serious relationship. His divorce from Carol left him extremely insecure and unsure of his placement in a couple. That's why he was so authoritative. By the end of the show they both had grown as people and their expectations in a partner were less idealized.

Thing is Ross and Rachel are great mostly because of Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer great chemistry and acting. Relationships like this wouldn't work with many other actor duos, people often overlook such fact. People often fall in love rather with Jennifer and David than with Ross and Rachel I guess. At least for me I'd rather have Jen and David together 😎

If the intention of the writers was to leave us believing that Ross and Rachel will be together forever then waiting till the last episode for them to get back together was a mistake; I think at least a whole season as a stable couple was needed to show that the roller coaster was over.

Monica and Chandler all the way

Other people hate them as a couple. I don't. I just see them as a couple who had to mature and grow apart before they can get together fully. They have to work on themselves and may date other people but in the end, they will fall in each others arms. I've know tons of real-life couple who went through the same thing. It's realistic since most of us are flawed and we have to grow and have our own identity before being in a relationship. Finding the Monica and Chandler type of love is hard, and sadly only few people can experience it immediately.

I remember When Friends came on Netflix, and Everyone around me started watching it. And me Who had watched every episode extensively, noticed That suddenly every joke made in class was a little bit too familiar🤔

What I found to be amazing was how they kept Monica & Chandler’s beautiful spark alive.

I actually really like the Ross and Rachel story arc. Although it was agonizing seeing them apart for so long, I also think it was good for them to be apart for some time because it enabled both characters to develop in different ways and mature before getting back together.
